Another Day Adrift in America
Searching for a political solution to a problem that may not have a "poltical" solution. Looking for the right language to bring people to our side in a battle with the masters of PR and language. We blame our political leaders for the failures of the American people. It is the leaders fault that they cannot communicate their thoughts and ideas to the people, otherwise, the people would not vote for the other guy. What is the solution?

Traditional political ads and commercials do not seem to work. Perhaps we need to be more honest with ourselves? Perhaps the people want what they have chosen? Perhaps they want to be lied to? Perhaps they want to see us bogged down in a quagmire of a war that did not have to be fought? Perhaps they really do think the huge debt and deficits of Bush and Republicans do not matter? Perhaps they enjoy paying $2.50 per gallon for gasoline? Perhaps they don't mind being disrespected around the world? Maybe we should simply accept that the people have got just what they wanted and what they deserve?

1. It's the Ostrich Syndrome..
a.k.a. The stick-your-head-in-the-sand syndrome. Look, no one wants a quagmire of a war, huge deficits, worldwide hatred of America, etc.
But for most people, they also don't want to hear about it if it IS happening.

2. Especially if they voted to support it..
Which is what they did. In our democracy, they chose the bed we will sleep in for many years to come.

3. the solution is we need to get our shit together
there is no room for self-doubt or giving up or throwing in the towel.

Every fight that's worth winning is going to be a hard fight - and we have to fight the hardest opponent of all: ignorance and apathy, and try not to get infected ourselves.

"We" are people too. We did not get what we wanted or deserved. The civilians in Iraq did not get what they wanted or deserved. Our children and cousins and siblings (and parents) in the army and in Iraq are not getting what they want or deserve.

When we start using B83 nuclear bunker busters in North Korea to hit "hardened" targets, the fallout can kill up to a million people per unit. If we do this against the 30 or so hardened targets in Iran, we could potentially kill up to 30 million people.

This is why we fight. This is why we stand up to the fucking evil that is this administration. Don't let the bastards get you down.

4. Maybe this is the type of language we need to use....?
rather than the standard political schtick of the politicians?

5. We should be using whatever it takes to wake up this Nation.
But the approaches should not be devious and decietful....but the Truth.

A new way of communicating the truth is sorely needed to overcome brainwashed Red States/counties.

Ever try convincing a JW their Godly views are in error?

But a few do...and every year a few quit the Jehovah Witness Org and become recovered...

We need a Recovering Pubs Program...I volunteer to assist....

7. "A new way of communicating the truth..."
opi.., I think that is the key. We need to stop trying to sugar coat the truth and tell it like it is and stop worrying about how it will play in Peoria...The problem with parlaying the truth seems to be with the leaders of the Democratic Party, moreso than many of us in the grassroots, imo. They are too worried about their "careers". And their jobs were never meant to be "careers" in the first place.

8. We need a series of tapes/discs made available to the Public
demonstrating the Untruths of the Pub Takeover and the devastating effects of Fundie Influence....never mind the elitist Corp Influence.

The Combo is killing this Nation.

An awakening is sorely needed for the cows to come home...a new dinner bell perhaps...

Mike Moore, Where the Hell is that guy?

Al Franken is on the right track but not funny enough...the Masses are addicted to sugar coated FUN.

And where is the COHESIVENESS, the Glue, the Bonds of us Libs, Dems,
Progressives, Greens, and Indies who want and deserve a better World for ALL of us.

World Peace is NOT IMPOSSIBLE.....and we are not PEACENIKS... but people who desire paths that lead Forward...not regression...and more debts.

We could do SO MUCH BETTER but Bush and his PUBS STAND IN THE WAY with onesided shit....

TOGETHER WE STAND...DIVIDED, Humanity on this Planet will go KAPUT

so much for simplicity...

6. Your post sums up my thinking.
We do a lot of hand-wringing about our framing failures and our inability to get out our message. But, to me, the problem is the sheeple themselves. In their heart of hearts a majority are believers in the Repug philosophy. They like the supposed toughness, simplicity, and self-interest.

They'll lie to pollsters about concern for the environment, civil rights, poverty, government debt, wars, etc to make themselves seem less harsh. But when push comes to shove in the voting booth, they go with their true beliefs.

Our mistake is we often take the poll results and extrapolate them to say the majority is with us. They aren't. And they won't be until the Repug policies start hitting them hard in the one thing they care about most--their pockets.
