1. It isn't more complicated than
Costco = blue and Walmart = red.

2. There is no reason to shop at Wal-Mart if you have a Costco membership.
Everything is better and cheaper, the employees take pride in their jobs and the company takes care of the employees and customers.

No contest.

9. WSJ runs an article
at least once a year denigrating Costco for treating their employees well. That money is better spent on dividends 2 shareholders, they reason. I think the most recent piece called their stock unreasonably overpriced or some such crap.

11. That WSJ ad (heh, heh) sealed the deal* for me!
Same criticism that is repeatedly heaved upon Southwest Airlines by itfailing competitors.

12. Me too.
As soon as I moved within reasonable distance of Costco, I signed up for a membership.
Thanks, WSJ, for making my decision easy!

5. Costco's cheaper.
In fact, Walmart's one of the more expensive big box stores.

Costco=treats its employees well.

Walmart=runs mom & pop stores out of business with cheap foreign prisoner-made crap.

8. I work for Costco
You've already been given the best reasons in the previous posts.

But, as far as a "side by side" cost comparison - it's going to be a little difficult to find one. Costco generally carries better quality goods and products than Walmart - at a bargain price.

I suppose you could compare things like Coca Cola and Bounty paper towels, but past that it's difficult. You're never going to find Nautica dress shirts at Walmart - for $9.99 like you will at Costco. Costco only carries quality merchandise, and backs it up with an extremely liberal return policy. You don't like it, it doesn't perform to your expectation? Bring it back for a full refund...whenever... The only merchandise that has a time limit for a return are computers.

The produce, the meats and the seafood are all more fresh and of a higher qualilty. And it's cleaner. In state health inspections Costco consistently kicks Sam's Clubs and BJ Warehouses asses.

14. It's speaks to the quality of Costco when an employee endorses the
company.

We love our Costco membership and value their ethical approach to business. MKJ

18. Thanks! I just wanted to add - I'm no executive or manager
I'm no company "big wig" either - I'm just a cashier/cart pusher/bathroom cleaner.

I love Costco the company, even if some days are frustrating (like any typical workday!), and I really appreciate the support for the Costco business model by all of the members who come through my line on any given day. Some know that Costco is blue, or that it treats employees well, some only know that they get good prices on good merchandise - but, all are appreciated and I'm glad you're there.

21. The front line people are the ones who really know the score.
It sounds like the top tier of your company keeps connected to those who are the true foundation...people like you who interact directly with the customers.

So thank you back atcha'! MKJ

15. much better products at Costco, WalMart is just junk.
I went to WalMart once, to pick up an item I had been unable to find at a competitive price elsewhere. It was pure junk. Never worked right. I looked around the store when I was there. It was pretty "shoddy" merchandise.

I started going to Costco years ago, mostly for food items. The quality cannot be beat and the prices are amazing. A couple of years ago my mom sent me to get some shirts for my dad who was ill. I'd never shopped in the clothing section before thinking it was shoddy stuff. Boy, was I wrong. These shirts were beautiful and cheap and a great brand. I bought the wrong size. A few weeks later I took them back and the woman didn't ask why I was bringing them back, she didn't ask for a receipt, she didn't even examine the shirts she just opened the cash register and handed me cash back. Like Nordstroms is famous for.

And this was all before I learned they were pure blue and great to their employees. There is no reason to go anywhere else, unless you want a cheap pedometer that doesn't work. You get what you pay for, but at Costco you get it way cheaper.

13. Wal-Mart: Corporate Socialism at its absolute worst.
*Bullying their way out of zoning laws.

*Classes on how to apply for food and health assistance from the government, while pricing helth insurance out of reach for their average employee and consistently keeping wages down.

*Demanding subsidies from local governments while forcing employees onto public assistance.

*Union-busting.

*Forcing American producers to lower their costs and produce more, so hurting employees in their few truly American producers.

Google "wal-mart sucks" and see what you find. I've got to get my kid's school stuff at CostCo.

17. Once we got a weather-vane from Walmart and it had 2 north-south
pointers and no east-west pointer.

:wtf:

When we took it back we couldn't make the clerk at Walmart understand what was wrong--we had to call the manager over before we could ever get anyone to understand the problem.

Sheesh.
