1. That's the word that it is Rove
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A11208-2003Sep27?language=printer

Wilson, while refusing to confirm his wife's occupation, has suggested publicly that he believes Bush's senior adviser, Karl C. Rove, broke her cover. Wilson said Aug. 21 at a public forum in suburban Seattle that it is of keen interest to him "to see whether or not we can get Karl Rove frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs.

BTW, there is speculation that the 2nd WH person may be Ari Fleischer.

This is going to get good. Freepers are freaking out.

I'd love to read excerpts of their melt-down. If anyone sees anything on their pages that's juicy, please post to DU.

8. Oh! Juicy, indeed!
Thanks.

I'd post some favorites, but I don't know if that's allowed on DU.

I've never seen them so conflicted. Some are just scrambling for an excuse. I love the guy who came up with the brilliant idea that the Administration has the right to expect that the CIA should not undermine its politics. Oh, well, I guess the 90's proved that expectation is incorrect. The entire right-wing arm of this country -- military, CIA, Energy Department, to name a few - worked against the Clinton Administration's policies.

used the word undermine, when refering to what wilson said about the Niger Uranium.

One guy even thanked God that the Independent Council Law had expired.

Boy, would the Democrats be having a field day if it were still active. Bwahahahahahahahah!

19. He did say that but
backtracked a bit in a Josh Marshall interview. He said he named Rove to generally represent the WH (paraphrase)

Maybe that was a self protective cover or some weird thing or not. The great thing is that I think WE'LL SEE!

22. Will anyone ask these questions?
From the ABCnote:

"Has President Bush made clear to the White House staff that only total cooperation with the investigation will be tolerated? If not, why not?

Has he insisted that every senior staff member sign a statement with legal authority that they are not the leaker and that they will identify to the White House legal counsel who is?

Has Bush required that all sign a letter relinquishing journalists from protecting those two sources? Has Bush said that those involved in this crime will be immediately fired? If not, why not?

Has Albert Gonzalez distributed a letter to White House employees telling them to preserve documents, logs, records? If not, why not?

Has Andy Card named someone on his staff to organize compliance? If not, why not?

White House officials who might have legal or political exposure on this are going to have to decide whether to hire lawyers or not, and the White House counsel's office is going to have to decide what legal help they can and should provide to officials if and when the DOJ wants to talk to them.

That means that the '90s practice of every Washington bureau of calling members of the bar to see who has hired whom is about to heat back up. The first one to report someone hiring a criminal lawyer wins a prize, as does the first person who develops that lawyer as a source on all this.

A reminder that students of recusal politics will have to consider the Rove-Ashcroft history"

4. I dunno but....
On CNBC they have their hourly (or whatever) news "outside of the business world" updates from MSNBC. Lead story just now: WH leaking Wilson's wife info.

If the whores are covering it the sheeple may actually learn about it.

5. Check out this thread
The story is a lot bigger than Rove outing Wilson's wife, it's about jeopardizing national security to get political revenge, and it backfired.

Lynn Cullen read an email from an internet listener she knows who is a former ambassador who knows Wilson from the Clinton admin. She wouldn't give the name of the emailer - wish I had taped the segment, but it went something like this.

The emailer was talking to Wilson over the weekend. Apparently someone in the WH told Wilson that late last week in the WH mess he overheard a conversation a WH staffer was having with Rove asking Rove if he had hired a private lawyer to handle this since the WH couldn't handle counsel for him.

Rove was claiming he didn't need a lawyer, that it was just journalists speculating, and that in this WH he couldn't be touched and that this will go nowhere in the Justice Dept.

Is Rove overconfident, or will they FIX this?

Sources close to the former president say Rove was fired from the 1992 Bush presidential campaign after he planted a negative story with columnist Robert Novak about dissatisfaction with campaign fundraising chief and Bush loyalist Robert Mosbacher Jr. It was smoked out, and he was summarily ousted.

http://slate.msn.com/id/2088471/

The question of whether to investigate who in the Bush administration blew Plame's cover surfaced Aug. 21 at a forum about intelligence failures on Iraq held by Rep. Jay Inslee, a fervently anti-war Democrat. Wilson, who was present, had this to say:

"It's of keen interest to me to see whether or not we can get Karl Rove frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs. And trust me, when I use that name, I measure my words."

25. I hate to bust everyone's bubble but something reported today
Saw the reporter who covers the Att'y Gen and CIA or whatever on CNN. He said that the CIA makes about 20 such requests a year because of leaks that have endangered their people. When asked how many are successful at getting the person and prosecuting, he replied "basically none". Because of the reporter/source confidentiality business, he said that no reporters will speak because it means that their careers are ended in that they will no longer get info they need. I would like to add to that that in this case you can add to it the WASP Mafia who will threaten any with swimming with the fishes if it even crosses their mind. Basically, this won't go any place but to a "no body could find anyone in the WH who did it" and the public will believe that it was investigated, Bush exonerated and that it was just filthy Dem politicing. Sorry.

27. David Ensor said all that....
I saw it too. However, there may be an irresistible force at play here. If the story gets legs (and from all the "chatter" going on today that could be happening) then these "concerns" that Mr. Ensor has expressed over freedom of press won't amount to a hill of beans.

This will come out if there is enough impetus. I just hope there is.
