Bush To Sign "Do Not Recall" Legislation Today

What is wrong with this country???? I can understand why Bush is signing this bill, but how did it ever get to his desk? I think Congress had a hand in this.

I know that 50 million people support the "Do Not Recall" bill ... but another 200 million don't obviously. (Back in 2000, Al Gore got 50 million votes. Add that to the 200 million who want to kick Bush out, and that's 250 million who do not support Bush.)

Addendumb: OK, I did a little checking. The vote in the Senate was 95-0 and in the House 412-8. I think everyone should write those members of Congress who voted for the bill and demand they resign ... or we'll recall them, too!

Bush GOOP

1. It'll be the one good thing he's done.
The do-not-call list is a good thing.

14. I'm still skeptical...
I hear political campaigns and issues can still spam your phone line under this legislation. I wouldn't put it past the politicians to used this list as a nifty source of numbers to call.

And goddamnit, my head almost blew up the 50th time I got a pre-recorded phone call about TORT reform. The poor, suffering insurance companies being ravaged by the evil consumer!

2. Would you mind explaining...
...why you think the "do not call" legislation is a bad thing?

Also, explain how you come to the "obvious" conclusion that 200 million people oppose the "do not call" legislation.

Thanks.

5. Do the math
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 09:52 AM by TDubyaA
There are 250 million citizens, 50 million of whom support the bill.

250 - 50 = 200 ... the last time I checked.

Or is your math fuzzy?

6. but its 50 million phones, not people
that should alter your math a bit. Couple that with the fact that some people were a little too busy scraping a living together to feed the kids and perhaps things even out.

Let me have your number and I'll forward the telemarketers I get to you ! (Thats a joke for any touchy people out there.)

10. 280+ million but who's counting
of which about 100-120M are voting age and eligible and about half of that represents the phones they have and don't want telemarketers calling them on. So thats about everyone ! Hum... no wonder the telemarketers don't like this !

The only "Bush" part of this is that he's signing the bill that explicitly authorises the FTC to create and require adherance to the wishes of the people regarding their privacy.

11. well, that changes everything
280 - 50 = 230 million who oppose Bush.

If enough people call their representatives in Congress, perhaps Congress can overturn the president's bill. (It takes 2/3 of Congress to overide the president, for those unfamiliar with our Constitution.)

What's going to happen if it turns out Bush lied and the people call for his impeachment. A "Do No Impeach" initiative by a handful of people will take president over the will of the majority?

This is a sad day in American politics.

12. TDubya, this is not a Do Not REcall bill. It's a Do Not CALL bill.
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 11:20 AM by BurtWorm
You understand that, don't you? It's about telemarketing? Not about government?

3. You do mean "Do not call" right? You are referring to the telemarketing
bill, right? Or are you having an Emily LaTella moment?

"Never mind..."
