"Davis's dirty campaigning"
I just listened to segments on Good Morning America
and The Today Show within minutes of eachother dissing
Gray Davis for his notorious "dirty campaigning".
Frankly Davis's ads against Riordan and Schwarzenegger
have been factual. The truth does hurt Republicans
I am surprised that these segments seemed to be
coordinated this morning.

We know dirty campaigning is done on a daily basis by
this White House and its minions to undermine real
Americans and democratic elections in the US.

The CNN poll was an aberration against other polls.
Most everyone I know thinks this recall is a Republican
coup to take the state of California because they
can't get the votes any other way.

1. If dirty helps then I hope Davis gets down and dirty real quick!
Fuck this shit. He has to do whatever it takes to win this, or at least knock musclehead down a few points so Bustamante has a shot. Somebody better start playing smart here.

3. national media excludes Davis
or downplays him, eager for missteps. The usual treatment AND a whopping inconsistent poll probably with the excuse of the unusual nature of the race giving them cover. Might as well have been an online poll. The national media in general and mostly in particular reeks of propping up GOP cutouts- mistakenly thinking the candidate must have infotainment image value alone.

Huurah damn the USA and give us circuses.

4. Preview for next year
any ads containing truths about the incompetency of bush, the results of letting ideological fanatics direct economic and foreign policy, the net jobs loss in face of skyrocketing deficits and the roll of tax cuts, all of that will be : Dirty Campaigning.

5. wiat a minute
Is it too late to do a LATimes poll? Or did they catch them flatfooted?
What do the other polls say or do they know there are none? That itself is strange.

6. "Davis's dirty campaigning" - Bullshit! This is the GOP's, and the
lapdog media's attempt to smear Davis. It's their main angle of attack. Davis hasn't done anything worse, in fact, probably less so, than Arnold's team. Arnold has told one lie after another about Davis, and with the media's help, is making them stick.

If California is actually stupid enough to elect the idiot Austrian, then they will deserve all that will happen because of their choice. My worst fear, is that it will put the GOP in position to steal the 04' election, just as they did in Florida.

7. Still, some of us are a bit uncomfortable
... with it.

... I've been raised to believe you argue through a position of strength, truth and honor. Otherwise it gives the appearance of being a shady character.

8. Agree
As a Californian I'd sure as hell love to hear some ideas out of Davis as opposed to attacks. Regardless of what you think about the recall, Davis has always been big on covering his tracks and small on leadership, which is something that California desperately needs.

10. I disagree with you.
You need to educate yourself on what Davis has really
done in this state.

These are some of the laws passed under his leadership:

-Largest expansion ever of college financial assistance
-Largest four year increase in total education funding
(increased of $10 billion or 32%)
- Largest and most aggressive teacher recruitment and retention
program.
- First ever statewide accountability program and Academic
Performance Index
- First-ever Four-Percent Admissions Program to UC Schools.

-Toughtest and most comprehensive gun safety laws in the nations

-Since Gov. Davis took office, enrolled more children in
Healthy Children

-First state to enact Violence Against Women Act, allowing victims
of gender violence to hold their attacker civilly liable.

-Signed into law SB 1301 - The Reproductive Privacy Act, ensuring
that California women will continue to have the right to an abortion,
regardless of what the Supreme Court does to Roe V Wade.

-One of the nation's broadest domestic partner laws

- First ever state paid holiday honoring Cesar Chavez

- First-ever Office of Private Protection dedicated to promoting
and protecting the individual privacy.

- Toughest housing and workplace discrimination laws

- Greatest investment in urban parks
-First comprehensive program to clean up coastal pollution
-First law in the nation to substantively address global warming
and greehouse gases.
-Toughest standards for toxic mold, lead, arsenic, Chromium 9 and
perchlorate,
- Largest ever investment in energy conservation programs.

(this is just a bit why California is always on the cutting
edge in this country and why a Republican governor would be
harmful to its existence.)

14. But all the people see is ...
... Draconian worthless gunlaws that do nothing to criminals yet burden law abiding voters.

... Increased taxes for everyone

... Free medical care and drivers licenses for illegals

... Mudsling and smear

No, Davis is a black eye on the face of California. It's time for new blood

... Support Cruz Bustamante!

17. LOL you mean Massachusetts doesn't have
a holiday honoring Cesar Chavez?

All dwarfed by the largest deficit in state history, larger than all other American states combined.

Guess you need to educate yourself on that one.

9. They aren't dirty ads
and that's the point. They are actually factual.
Arnold didn't vote in a lot of the last elections.
Arnold didn't want to debate in any debates other
than the one he received the questions beforehand.

This is the smear campaign by the Republicans.
Get educated first about what the ads really say.

Arnold and the Republicans have consistently lied
about the state of California.

11. Read the Davis ad here....
An analysis of new Gray Davis ads

http://www.montereyherald.com/mld/montereyherald/news/6871891.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp

Associated Press

Details of a new television ad from Gov. Gray Davis that that will begin airing Friday:

_Title: "Questions"

_Length: 30 seconds

_Created by: Doak, Carrier, O'Donnell & Associates

_Airing: Statewide

_Dominant images: A mix of live film clips and text.

_Script: (Announcer) "Arnold Schwarzenegger is attacking Gray Davis on the budget. But official state records show spending went up less under Davis than under Pat Brown ... Jerry Brown ... George Deukmejian ... less than even Ronald Reagan.

"Forty-seven states and the federal government have deficits because of the national recession. Why can't Arnold Schwarzenegger get his facts straight? He has no experience, won't answer press questions, won't debate unless he has the questions in advance, and didn't even bother to vote in 13 of the last 21 elections.

"Vote No on the recall."

---

_Analysis: This is Davis' first ad that challenges GOP front-runner Arnold Schwarzenegger directly, a counterpunch message that comes in response to ads that Schwarzenegger has been running all week critical of the governor.

The first point the ad makes is that Schwarzenegger has unfairly attacked the governor on the budget. Davis argues that under his administration, state spending has not increased as much as under other governors. He cites a study from the California Budget Project as the source supporting his contention.

California Budget Project says it is an independent, nonpartisan research group, although Republicans would argue it is somewhat left-leaning and would call some of the group's findings into question.

The charge that Schwarzenegger has no experience in public office is accurate, although supporters argue that he has been a successful businessman and entertainer - skills Reagan had before being elected governor. The notion that Schwarzenegger has not answered questions from the press is sweeping - initially he was reluctant to grant interviews but in recent weeks Schwarzenegger has done numerous interviews with print, radio and TV reporters. Like a lot of politicians - including the governor - Schwarzenegger has not necessarily answered all the questions posed to him. It is true that he agreed to participate in just one debate, which is all Davis participated in during his re-election campaign last year.

Schwarzenegger's voting record is also a matter of public record and he's acknowledged that he's missed a number of elections in recent years.

Analysis by Associated Press Writer Tom Chorneau.

12. Another Davis ad with Sen. Feinstein
http://www.sacbee.com/24hour/politics/recall/story/986513p-6928291c.html

ANALYSIS: Two ads from Gov. Gray Davis
By TOM CHORNEAU, Associated Press - (Published September 2, 2003)
(AP) - Gov. Gray Davis will begin running his first TV ads Wednesday. Here are details:
-Titles: "Outcome" and "Keep Working."

-Length: Both 30 seconds.

-Created by: Doak, Carrier & O'Donnell.

-Airing: Los Angeles, San Francisco and Monterey beginning Wednesday.

-Dominant images: On-camera images of Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

-Script: In the first ad, "Outcome," Feinstein says: "This governor was elected just last November. The recall was started within three months by people who were unhappy with the outcome of an election in which 8 million Californians voted. The recall is creating uncertainty and instability - it's bad for our economy, it's bad for jobs and it's bad for California.

"I'm going to vote against it. I hope you will too."

In the second ad, "Keep Working," Feinstein says: "I hope you'll vote against the recall. With 135 candidates someone could win with 15 percent of the vote. Will they be qualified? Where will they stand on the issues? What will the uncertainty do to our economy? This recall is bad for California. The governor deserves the chance to keep working on issues we care about, like education, health care and important new privacy legislation. On the recall - just say no."

-Analysis: It's no accident the state's most popular elected official is featured in Davis' first ads. Producers are hoping some of Feinstein's good standing with voters will rub off on the embattled governor, and especially that her strong message against recall will resonate with Democrats - the state's majority party.

Most of Feinstein's major points are accurate and fair. Recall was started by a handful of Republican activists unhappy after losing last November's election. The notion that the governor might be replaced in the coming weeks does create an air of instability for state government. And it is also fair to say a replacement candidate could win the election with a small minority of the votes and with few qualifications.

But how big an impact recall has on the state economy is debatable. California has a $1 trillion economy - the sixth-largest in the world - and its fate is not necessarily determined by the governor.

The state's economic woes began well before recall and are not likely to end if Davis keeps his job.

16. Linda Douglas on ABC News
with Peter Jennings just repeated the Republican notes for
today...that Davis is a well-known dirty ad campaigner.
Maybe if they took the time to show the ads and analyze them,
proving that the ads are actually just quotes about Arnold
from other new sources and are factual, I'd have some
respect for their reporting.

I hate Republicans but I really hate the media just repeating
Republican talking points.
