Cliff May smearing Wilson - says Wife CIA no secret
http://www.nationalreview.com/may/may200309291022.asp

It's the top story in the Washington Post this morning as well as in many other media outlets. Who leaked the fact that the wife of Joseph C. Wilson IV worked for the CIA?

What also might be worth asking: "Who didn't know?"

I believe I was the first to publicly question the credibility of Mr. Wilson, a retired diplomat sent to Niger to look into reports that Saddam Hussein had attempted to purchase yellowcake uranium for his nuclear-weapons program.

<snip>

On July 14, Robert Novak wrote a column in the Post and other newspapers naming Mr. Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, as a CIA operative.

That wasn't news to me. I had been told that — but not by anyone working in the White House. Rather, I learned it from someone who formerly worked in the government and he mentioned it in an offhand manner, leading me to infer it was something that insiders were well aware of.

2. If it were not an issue,
the CIA would not be making an issue of it. This is just spin.

12. Thanks
I contend is is far more morally superior to be a whore of the body (sexual prostitute) than a whore of the mind (Selling your intellectual talents).

5. Routinely breaking the law in D.C.?
And May is proud to be the first to attack the credibility of Wilson - as far as I can tell everything Wilson has said is the truth. So, when the RNC attacks we can be sure the attack is against the truth.

May is one that I cannot bear to watch/listen to for even seconds.

6. Un-fucking-believable

This asshole is basically saying that, because Joseph Wilson told the truth about the Uranium claim, he should bear some of the blame for his wife's cover being blown.

To paraphrase Ann Coulter, the only thing I regret is that Timothy McVeigh didn't blow up whereever the national review is located.

8. What a jerk!
It doesn't matter if he knew her name; the fact is it's AGAINST THE LAW to name her in public. That's the point. This guy is a supreme idiot.

11. you think they are just gonna deny and leave it at that?
Of course not. They'll invent stuff to make this seem OK. We'll have trial attempts at this - like eveyone knew she was a CIA agent - to see what works best. Then the spin machine will kick in until they all begin to repeat it in an attempt to stop the story.

It may work where, but one of these times it's going to fail. Maybe this time...

15. So is he turning in the guy who told him?
Still a felony, and apparently not a particularly anonymous source, since "everybody" was leaking the news.

16. Don't you smell
the whiff of desperation in all of this? Apparently Rush was saying the same thing today. This is huge, they know it, and they are calling the sleazepeddlars to try to discredit it.

17. Did May just stick his foot in it?
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 04:33 PM by 2cents
If the agent's ID was confidential (and it seems the CIA thinks it was), wouldn't it behoove an investigator to also question May as to who his name dropper was - and if May had subsequently mentioned it, "in an offhand manner", to anyone?
