Dean on NPR Talk of the Nation
1st, let me explain that I have no favorites so far. In California, our primaries are months away..... Having said that, the good doctor sounded great! Like the Big Dog, he speaks well, is intellectually ingaged. He answered the caller's questions quite well. He surely does not come off as a far-out liberal, no matter what Rove will claim. I feel like we may have a winner here...... OK, folks let the flames begin!

2. I would like to know his stance on assisted suicide
I am a Dean-leaner but will likely vote for whoever is the nominee. I would like to hear Dean's position, being a medical professional, on assisted suicide -- it would cut the pharm industries off at the knees, as well as the HMO and long-term-care industries, and allow elderly and the terminally ill to pass with dignity rather than stringing them along for years via purely chemical means while taking all of their money and quality of life.

I, personally, am all for it because I don't want to be an 85 year old guinea-pig for Pfizer.

Any links are appreciated.

8. Excellent post, H chick
I have never made the connection of the "keep um alive so we can feed off them" theory. Makes perfect sense to me. WTF are humans equal to dairy cows?...... This smacks of "Soilent Green" the movie. Total control of the flock of sheeple for what? ..... Corporate profit, God Damn It!

3. Dean
Howard Dean has that peculiar habit of answering the question asked. He's been like that for as long as I have known of him. There is a local radio show he was on regularly where he would field questions from all over the state. He got some practice that way.

7. A friend who I introduced to Dean
called me the other day to say that he had gone from curious about Dean, to a fullfledged supporter. When I asked why, he said "Because he answers the question!"

6. Dean was OK, but Mara Liason (sp?) was atrocious
I too heard the show this afternoon. Once again, Mara Liason managed to mention all the candidates but mine, Dennis Kucinich. She is notorious for doing this, and has done so repeatedly over the last few weeks, even when reporting on the so-called "minor" candidates.

One of her most inexcusable gaffes was made in reference to the "other" anti-war candidate in the race: Wesley Clark. WTF? What about Al Sharpton, Carol Mosely-Braun and Dennis Kucinich??? Where is she getting her facts from?

I was also troubled by the fact that many of the callers who claimed to be supporters of Dean didn't know his positions on many important issues, like the death penalty and the Kyoto treaty. IMHO, these are very important issues that should be part of any decision to support a candidate for national office. And these are people that are hosting fundraisers and house parties!

Dean did a fine job, but NPR is reaching even newer lows.

9. yeah, Mara is horrible

I'm not sure what happened. I can recall at some point, some years ago, thinking that she was the sharpest and most articulate and transparently liberal commentator they had. Now she seems to be in a streak of personal inerrancy, in-groupy beyond all reason and cynical in painful ways about the average American. In short, she's probably gone over to the neo-cons.

I can hardly bear to listen to her at all, so annoying is her smugness, so it's a good thing for me that she doesn't get as much air time anymore as she used to. Someone needs to tell her that her crystal ball needs a lot of repairs and is beyond its warrantee period.

10. Dean kept calling Clark a Republican, which is not true.
Clark was an Independent. Dean repeatedly referred to Clark having voted for Nixon and Reagan, but never mentioned that Clark has said he voted for Clinton twice, and for Gore.

Dean is an opportunistic liar. And he's scared to death of Clark, as he should be.
