The Camp Casey Crosses: Religion and Politics
I think it's really ironic that the very people who have been all for the conflation of religion and politics when it comes to any issue they can use to their advantage are so incensed when on the receiving end that they actually resort to vandalism.

2. Some idiot drove his truck over the crosses, some flags and some flowers
AFAIC, he did Cindy Sheehan and the folks at the Peace House a real solid in the PR department.

4. The guy who fired the gun in the air should have been arrested....
even if he fired the gun within his property. A stray bullet could have easily killed an innocent person. God forbit, killed a child. The newspaper headline called it "to startle demonstrators." The man was enraged and was out for blood. He lookded like a foreign nazi hiding in the backwoods of America. Yep, God Bless America...

7. Good point.
When the authorities allow one person to get away with something clearly intended to threaten and intimidate the peaceful people who were there simply to exercise their constitutional rights, it sends a clear message to the lower life forms.

10. Calm down on the hysteria.
His action in firing the gun was very thinly disguised attempt to intimidate, and reprehensible.

But there was no danger of a stray bullet hitting anyone.

He used a shotgun (fires small pellets, NOT bullets), was several hundreds of feet from the protest (Out of range. Birdshot will NOT travel that far), and fired in a direction away from the road.

5. And we have pictures.
Visual proof of the mentality of those people - that one of the Bush-lovin', morality preachin' troop supporters (ahem) became so enraged by those crosses being along the side of the road he had to mow them over.

The pictures of those crosses lying on the ground are bound to stir emotions - very powerful. I expect a lot of outrage over this.

11. Symbolic of the coffins coming home....
nobody gets to see them or honor them. They are like crosses strewn upon the ground.

6. Protestors should line one side of the road with boots....
and fields of American flags. The little bushies always win due to their claim to our flag.

12. for real
I just walked past the TV in our lobby (tuned to CNN), and I see this pile of overturned crosses and American flags trampled into the ground...WTF? I thought the right was all about pride in the flag, Christianity, and supporting our troops?

And desecrating the cross and the flag all at once...wow.
