Funny...this should be issue #1 for the upcoming election. How is Rummy going to pay for his war if Americans can't afford to pay taxes?

3. Man that sucks!
My job is currently packing up it's bags and reading the brochures for Bengalore...they tell us the new India call center is just to "offset" all the calls we're getting. This is bullshit, of course.

BTW...I remember something about Edwards being one of the few who is addressing this issue - not even Dean or Clark is touching it with a 10-foot pole (and I'm a Clark/Dean Supporter)

and I especially like his approach to a solution. Give companies a reason to stay home as opposed to attampting to force them to. Forcing them will not help, its not like they love the idea to begin with. It introduces large complexities and is not quite the massive money saver that people think. I don't think that it takes a great deal for companies to stay (at least in the tech sector I'm in). And the results are not terrific. Questions take a day to be heard, the language barrier is mitigated but not overcome and productivity is not good nor is quality (even with Six Sigma, Deming of Japan fame reborn only not as good).

And yes, it does suck. Thanks for the empathy. Good luck in your situation.

I had seen this before (in TIME) and didn't really think about it - but yeah, it wouldn't surprise me. They are always looking for ways to cut costs.

It will be a challenge for many Americans who were used to 5, even 6 figure incomes, housing, complete with running water and electricity, daily meals - to transition to the lifestyle that 50 cents a day will buy in the average US city.

Fair is fair though, and we can count on our compassionate corporations to do their part to help out. Something as simple as making some changes to the dress code can go a long way toward helping an IT specialist learning to live without showers or a change of clothing know that he is valued!

Some generous companies may even provide transportation - let's give the suits a break, guys. They know you can't afford a car, or even a bus on $2.50 a week, well, $1.30 or so after tax and social security withholding...

I'm a member of a worker-run cooperative.

However, I AM worried about the jobs of our customers. If they don't have jobs, we can't stay in business.

10. Friend of mine used to work at Boeing
until they sent his job to Russia. Russia! And this is one of the biggest corporate welfare recipients in the country, which means in the world. And yes, he's losing his house.

11. $1.2 Trillion For India By 2010 From Outsourcing
They've already started to outsource their business by establishing IT and call centers in South America, Europe and China.

Evidently, they know how to run and tax businesses that benefit their overall economy and people where where we don't.

I hope the Dem Party and the canidates are studying this issue because it can't continue for long without hurting everyone in the US.

12. Yep--the handwriting's on the wall
I was instructed to be interviewed by a team of outsourced analysts from India, so that they could propose a price to do the work my team does. Turns out we're so analysis-intensive and people-intensive, that they couldn't compete with our current costs. Didn't instill much confidence in the organization I work for, however....
