Local (Fulton, MO) man protests war, deaths in Iraq
Another user posted this link in a reply to a thread on the Missouri forum, but it deserves more attention. This 77-year-old man, an army vet who lives in a small town in central Missouri, is conducting a one-man protest of the war (he's stood in front of a Wal-Mart!). I'll excerpt, but the whole article is worth reading.

Local man protests war, deaths in Iraq

Harold Graf is tired of hearing about American soldiers dying during the war in Iraq, and now he wants to do something about it.

. . .

Graf said the protest of Cindy Sheehan - whose son Casey was one of nearly 2,000 American soldiers killed in Iraq - in Crawford, Texas also played a role in his decision. In particular, he said, he was influenced by the way Sheehan has been treated.

"They allowed an idiot down there to shoot over their heads and run down through their memorials," he said. "Now they're demonizing her, and that's not right. They always kill the messenger, but what about the message?"

. . .

Graf, 77, has spent time in the military himself. He served stateside in the Army and the active Reserve for seven years, as well as working as a civilian Army supply officer during the Vietnam War.

Full article.

4. Yeppers, this is just down the road from me,
And people in this most conservative of counties are starting to wake up. We've got a local chapter of Women in Black that have been protesting for over a year now every week. We also have regular contigents from Fulton going over to Columbia to participate in Mid Mo Peaceworks bi-weekly protests.

People are starting to wake up, even out here in Bubba country. A big congratulations to all of these folks, and all people who are standing up to Bush in small town, red state America!
