1. Wow. Thank you very much.
Most of us picked out a few choice lies right away, but every word is skewed. I especially like the last part:

(As a personal note, I am stating that my reading of this piece is very troubling. It is my opinion that should I continue this analysis, I would have to conclude that this person is providing excuses for traitorous and criminal behavior, knowingly committed under perceived cover of 'offical' sanction . Since I do not wish to conclude that Robert Novak, a well placed political operative, is guilty of treason, the SKED analysis presented here will stop. )

2. Personally, I think they ought to prosecute Novak first.
He's the one who publicly named the CIA agent, thus violating the law. If he wants to do 10 years, fine, let him. If not, maybe he'll cough of the name of his partner inside the administration.

3. I agree
Regardless who his source is, Novak revealed the woman's identity. As I said in another thread, he of all people, with his years of experience as a journalist (cough, cough, ok), ought to know that regardless what assurances his sources gave him that she was only an analyst, perhaps even those sources didn't know.

Revealing her identity served no useful news purpose. Whatever Novak's motive was, whatever he hoped to achieve, it could never be connected to improving national security. Bad move, Novak, bad move. Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200,000 for a book deal.

4. Why not invoke the Patriot Act
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 05:43 PM by Jacobin
Novak is clearly an enemy combatant. He outed a CIA agent fighting terrorists and WMDs.

Pick him up, take him to Gitmo, put him in a cage, interrogate him, he gets no lawyer or habeas corpus and I'll bet he'll tell really fast.

After all, the Patriot Act isn't just for folks named "Abdul"
