John McCrory says this:

6:17 pm Earlier tonight I wrote about the 'famously leak-proof' White House as apotheosized by Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal. The most interesting point Noonan made was that the White House does leak, but they only leak to advance President Bush's agenda. (She also quoted Mary Matalin as making the disturbing comment that "There aren't any separate ideological or policy vents" — i.e. nobody disagrees with the boss, but that's another story.)

Noonan explained that when the White House leaks, and they do it "all the time" according to Matalin, it is not "conflict leaking" to put out a view that opposes that of the President. Rather, Noonan wrote, "they leak what Mr. Bush wants leaked."

Did George Bush want those two "administration officials" to tell Time magazine and Robert Novak to reveal Valerie Plame's secret CIA role? If the White House is as disciplined about leaking as it is supposed to be, can there be any doubt that the leakers leaked at the direction of the President? It would appear that Peggy Noonan would have us believe Bush was behind it, since there is no "conflict leaking" in this administration.

Isn't it obvious why they they aren't doing more to find out who the leakers are? there's no buckstop here.

1. Good find!
It would be fun if some babbling head shows actually interviewed Piggy now and asked it to reflect on those comments and the current events...

2. Don't forget Bush allegedly read the Bible at Lee Attwater's bedside
when he was sick after God punished him with brain cancer. Bush was just as much a part of the Willie Horton ad as was Attwater. So Bush is as adept at smear campaigns as anyone in the WH. Bush would OK this leak in a heartbeat.

4. Of course. Bush IS a political operative and always has been.
Bush and Rove work as a team and have since they palled around with Atwater in the 70s. They were a team of dirty tricksters.

8. Yeah I read somewhere that Jr. was particularly nasty working
for Poppa Bush's campaign years ago. Very vengeful and vicious.

9. lots of good, inside dish in Ed Rollins' autobio
he was the whipcracker for poppy. first place I read about how mean-spirited, vindictive he is.

also first place I read how much like mommy he is.

great picture in the book of big fat bugeyed Bar, poised to bite Rollins' head off in a WH receiving line.

Rollins was very honest the other night (espec for a pug) about how marginal were the WMD claims in the run up to the war.

very surprising, coming from any repub, but revealing, in that it indicates that he may be putting his nose to the political winds.

he was Reagan's campaign manager (84, IIRC), as well as Michael Huffington's, Ross Perot's, and Jack Kemp's in 88 (which earned him the BFEE's perhaps unending enmity), as well as Atwater's mentor (summoned to his deathbed), so he knows what's up, you can be fairly certain.
