Systematically Neutralizing KEY PLAYERS
This is what intelligent coaches do in sports.

When you're playing chess, this is what you aim to do to your opponent.

What's been happening lately?

Rummy under fire for Iraq. People calling for his resignation. Coming under fire and intense criticism.

Cheney dissapearing instead of facing questions about Halliburton and No-Bid contracts in Iraq and having to go to the SC to defend his energy papers.

Now Rove facing allegations of being responsible for a major Nat'l Security leak. This also brings Ashcroft under a GREAT deal of scrutiny.

Tonight, Rush caught up in a drug scanal?!?

One by one they're all being tied up and neutralized. Seems systematic, coordinated and methodical...Like good chess...

39. the right-wingers have compromised national security
and domestic tranquility. Just like the Clark supporter said a few weeks ago "Things are happening and you don't know what they are."

I think the Bush administration has so compromised our national security that some very big players are starting to take them down.

44. Yes. They have become too dangerous and the CIA protects their own
The CIA cannot let this sort of outing happen and not respond. It would absolutely devastating to their intel networks. How could they recruit sources and operatives if there's a chance they'll be outed for petty political gain?

35. disagree on both counts
1. They're distracted, not neutralized

2. I doubt it's coordinated, except possibly by God. There is a karmic logic to it all coming to a head right now. They've had an incredible run of good luck and excellent marketing of their message up to now. I'd say their hubris is catching up to them; their belief that they could do no wrong is boomeranging them in the head.

But getting lined up like a there's a single chessmaster behind all their shit getting aired out? I doubt it.

1. The Halliburton scandal is not on the national radar. Cheney is hiding, but can pop out of his hole at full strength at any time.

2. Rush is only being his usual self, a clownish distraction whoring after a paycheck (and an ego trip). In the big game, he's not a player. Even if he were, there's still 99% of the rest of the rightwing media talk chorus. Savages come and go; the tribe lives on.

3. Rumsfeld is on solid ground and remains completely in play. He's the real Republican equivalent to Clinton. We can hammer him all day and he won't go down.

4. Rove is vulnerable, but is still not getting named on the air yet. Rice is mishandling everything but is still getting kid glove treatment. Wolfowitz is soldiering away undisturbed.

5. Despite ruining the economy, lying to start an unnecessary war, greasing down his war-profiteer cronies, and covering up for his Saudi buddies who funded the murder of 3000 people on our shores, Bush is running at a 50% approval rating.

38. I didn't say there was a single chess master
I would suspect that there are several, if in fact I'm correct.

It would be set up as separate teams, each focused on a specific player.

I don't state my theory as fact, it's pure speculation, but I do see a pattern.

You're wrong about neutralization though. Keeping them occupied and distracted is effectively neutralizing them from doing other things.

Cheney: Where is he? He's in hiding because if he comes out of his cave he's going to get slammed about Halliburton and his 9/11-Iraq claims. You're wrong, he's hiding otherwise he'd be out there threatening people. Halliburton HAS become mainstream knowledge. When Letterman makes jokes about it, it's pretty mainstream.

Rush: Sorry, but Rush is a BIG megaphone for disseminating the sleaze and talking points for the Repubs. If you distract him, your taking out a key propoganda instrument. He motivates and stirs up the rabid rightwing nuts and gets them into a frenzy of action.

Rumsfeld: You couldn't be more wrong about this. Rummy's in ALOT of trouble. Iraq is HIS albatross. He's incredibly vulnerable and pissed off A lot of people. Very prominent top military leaders have called for his resignation. That's very very bad. He's fighting for his political life and has his hands full.

Rove not getting named on the air? Are you joking? I hear his name mention more in the last three days than I have in the last three years. This whole mess is focused like a laser beam on Rove!

Bush's 50% is history for good. Let's talk after the next polls...They will be ugly...

7. We are in the middle of a war, I am not kidding
We are fighting it in boards and all that, but
the real players, they are doing it behind closed
doors and in cloaked rooms.

The CIA\ State Department axis vs the DoD \ Veep office
is but a small view into the civil war that is now
raging inside the governemnt.

Now we should all pray that those people doing the
fighting inside them cloacked rooms do come out
victorious (and by the way Wilson's wife outing
was part of that war) and we must continue to
fight this the way we have so far, which is with the pen.

IF they should fail, then the war will move from mostly
paper and pen, to a real shootng war with bullets and
guns... and civil wars are NOT civil. But we must
be ready for that possibility.

14. Now I am willing to go on a limb here
and ask the what if...

What if Powell is a key player who has been fighitng the good fight?

The reason why I am willing to now consider this is he has lost all
major policy battles and every time we all expect him to pull out.

he does not... as any soldier he realizes that retreat is called for
to fight another day.

Now if this is the case...and I am going on a limb here... we
will not know about this, since this will be classified so
deeply that best case our kids will learn about it, when it is
declassified anywhere from fifty to seventy five years after this is
over.

Now if this this the case, they have not fired him because he knows
where all the skeletons are.

Anyway, this will get hotter boys and girls and expect the fighting
to get harder.

Yes that thuoght about Powell came to me after thinking hard about the code of the Army.

20. Thanks for McArthur's speech
This is exactly what I mean

"Yours is the profession of arms, the will to win, the sure knowledge that in war there is no substitute for victory, that if you lose, the Nation will be destroyed, that the very obsession of your public service must be duty, honor, country. "

If this is what I think this is, and this is a real war, we may have a Soldier following the Code of the Army, at great personal sacrifice.

Reality is we will never know, if this is the case... because if I am reading this right, the level of sacrifice may include jail.

It just struck me while reading many a story today and reading editorials. I have had the feeling that there is a civil war inside
the Government for some time. Some editorials today actually used that phraseology, and it really started bothering me when watching Buchanan and Press.

There is more to this than meets the eye, very much more than just meets the eyes.

Now troops we need to continue our side of the battle as we are fighting to keep this nation free.

Welcome to the club! Please do write about it...

When you acknowledge what it is that really makes us human
Then others motivations become less alien
And understanding them is really understanding yourself
I may not ever do the things others do, but I can understand them
If only through knowing I've had the self control
To suppress those urges in myself...

15. I agree with you 100%
This war has been going on for awhile now, mostly since 9/11.

I told family members after 9/11 and the anthrax scare, that it will take a military takeover to get us from the grips of these people who are destroying this country. I think what you're seeing now is essentially that.

Tenet must play this out now, no matter what. It's a gamble, and the adversary is great, but he cannot turn back now because if he does he knows for sure - it's over. This is the EndGame. This one's a go-for-broke call now.

19. I am reminded of the English system where ministers come and go
and the secretarys and other bureaucracies stay. It could
be that the one who are career professionals want the nut
jobs out as bad as we do. They are people, just like us.
They love America and appreciate the respect of the world.
Imagine working in government right now. I would have
cancer by now if I worked in the white house. People have
been alluding to a war in the white house. Count on it.

be a civil war of sorts happening, not in the WH, the WH is firmly Buscho, but certainly within the upper echelons of the gov't...Fortunately for us, it seems the CIA has taken a side against Bushco. 25. I think you misread the CIA
They may be a-holes but they are also
real patriots.

there is a story about the army and Watergate.

The Joint Chiefs were asked, where does the Army stand?

Tehir answer, to the Congress was very cryptic,

"We stand behidn the Constitution."

CIA agents take a similar oath as the Army does... hence
I do believe you are misreading the CIA on this instance.

They will go to certain extents, right or wrong. to suport
policy decisions from insert admnistration here... but this time
they are seeing an administration that is fitting the definiion
of an internal enemy.

Remember the oath says... "To protect the Constitution of the US
against enemies both foreign and domestic."

I only meant that they are not necessarily doing this for the Dems, they are doing it for their own reasons. I didn't mean to imply that there weren't some very upstanding and true patriots in the CIA, just that I don't necessarily think this done for or with any partcular political persuasion...It's being done for the good of the country AND for their own survival and continued efficacy...

40. The CIA ONLY does their duty.
Why are you giving CIA any patriotic credit. They asked for a routine inquiry by Justice 3 months ago. Now they are asking again. The ONLY reason this is in the media is because someone in the WH is playing deepthroat and outing the two callers. Not the CIA. The CIA did nothing other than repeat a three month old request to Justice.
The CIA has no emotion. It is an organization that does not figure anything into an equation other than the task at hand. That is what they sign on for and that is what they do better than anyone in the world. They change regimes, remove officials and disappear people on orders.

43. The CIA
Just like any other organization is a collection of individuals. Some good, some bad, some honorable, some sleazy.

The CIA as an entity has may not have emotion as you put it, but the people in it do. They also look out for their own. They're an independent lot that wields a great deal of their OWN power and influence regardless of the political affiliation of the current regime. The "task at hand" it appears is to take down Bushco. That's my read on it anyway. They are very good at that game.

37. CIA plays tiddly-winks
They're political players like any other bureaucrats, sure. But they couldn't do all this. The Rush business isn't part of it at all.

It's common fallacy that the CIA can run things in this country the way secret police do in less democratic societies. Whenever the CIA has been involved with scandals in the past, it has always been at the behest of administration policies. Contra-drugs, domestic spying, dirty deeds overseas, the Chilean coup... CIA misdeeds are always about carrying out policy. They are not chessmasters at this level.

I'm willing to be proved wrong on this point, but I just don't buy into double-bank-shot conspiracies as a default. (c.f., Ocam's razor).

I admit that. But you don't think there was a "double shot" cospiracy theory behind the systematic smearing of Clinton? Puhleeze! You act as if I'm talking about Alien abductions here!

The CIA has LOTS of control over the press and the media. They most certainly ARE chessmasters at this level. They wrote the book for crying out loud! That's what they exist for.

I'm not claiming I'm 100% right on this. Yeah, Rush could be a coincidence, but my gut tells me there's a method to the madness...It seems there's a serious confluence of events. It's very convenient that the rightwing's top propoganda guy is being taken down at the exact moment they need him most to rally the troops in defense of the Chimp. He's busted BIG TIME and most definitely neutralized for the time being...
