Sports is a sacred bond between men (and women)

and it is neutral ground. Liberals and conservatives and moderates and agnostics can get together and watch healthy young people compete for all they are worth. If politics gets discussed between friends between plays, it is as equals, nothing in anybody's face. Sports fans don't like idiot announcers who don't know the sport (Rush apparently does have a good fan's knowledge of football), or are "Captain Obvious". They will tolerate someone with deep knowledge who can convey it, like a John Madden. But we don't want a semi-competent announcer suddenly grinding a political ax, and one that can sour half the buddies watching. To boot the ass was obsessed, as usual, with race baiting. America really doesn't need radio personalities fomenting race hatred no matter how subtle.
