Freepers reaction to price gouging?
Perhaps I missed this in another thread, but has somebody with the stomach to lurk over there been documenting their reaction to the obvious price gouging going on?

4. Just wait for the high praise
When gasoline drops back to "Only" $3.59.9 per gallon thanks to their godlike "Fearless Leader"'s bold action(?). A few more weeks and <$4 gas will be seen as a miracle.

7. Earlier today, when they released SRP oil
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:58 PM by ThoughtCriminal
Bush's economist said there were refineries running below capacity.

Edit - quote and link in case someone is dumb enough to take this argument outside of FR:

Bernanke, chairman of President Bush's Council of Economic Advisers, said the administration's decision to release oil from emergency stockpiles should be helpful.

"There are some petroleum refineries that don't have crude and by allowing them to draw from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve they will be able to produce more gasoline," he said

13. I just checked (wash me PLEASE!!!)
They are dissing Michael Savage (whom they previously held as a leader in Truth-Telling), implying that the corporate bastards are liberals, and wondering if this is going to create a recession, maybe a depression.

15. What they're saying...
Argument #1: Stations are raising their prices because they DON'T want people to buy their gas. They're providing a public service by stopping a run on gasoline before it starts!

- I'm not even going to respond to this one.

Argument #2: The Free Market will fix everything. It's government restrictions on new refineries that caused the shortage.

- As if the oil companies care about building new refining capacity. Why should they? When demand goes up and supply stays constant, profits go up. People will buy the gasoline no matter what. Of course, they're also glad the government has a strategic petroleum reserve and that Bush has opened it. Wait a minute, that doesn't sound like the Free Market to me...
