Just Curious - Where Do You Dump That Much Rubble?
I have never been to the mouth of the Mississippi or anywhere else in the northern gulf region but it is my impression that it is very much one big wetland. Where will they be able to dispose of the rubble to be scooped up by cleanup efforts. It won't be soon, not this week and maybe not even the week after, but machines are going to go into a hundred miles of coast and remove the remains of entire communities. Where in hell is it all going to go? How will it be disposed of without poisoning that same area for decades, if not centuries, to come?

Do we have an ecological disaster here that is about to be compounded horribly by dumping with no more criteria for location than the convenience of the moment?

4. That's my bet...
They'll save the French Quarter, the airport, and downtown. The rest will be bulldozed into a giant landfill, covered over with dirt and clay, and the built over - streets and all.

6. I was thinking that as well...
Level the lower destroyed parts of NO. Cover the rubble with fill, then a top layer of dirt. Rebuild above or equal to sea level...

It makes sense to me.

7. How about on *'s ranch?
Maybe we can "eminent domain" the land that the mansions of the fat-cat executives at Haliburton and Exxon sit on and dump it there.

12. Incinerate it
and use the ashes to build up the area...it would be sterilized and less toxic and the ashes could compact pretty good....

the mortor and brick should be crushed and used for base fill upon which a new New Orleans can be built....

13. Grind it up, mix it with the right stuff, and build levees out of it. It
would be the smart thing to do... along with building some "high ground" in the area.
