since when did it become a bad thing to become a "bleeding heart liberal?"
my heart yearns for things like social justice, equality, an end to racism.

what happened in nola is racism PURE AND SIMPLE.

if these people were white and had money, their basic human needs would be met because the culture views white people with money as HUMAN BEINGS.

not so with the poor, especially not the case with blacks. they are considered less than human.

how would the average white person react if the average urban black male came up to them in a dark alley and said "BOO!" what about a group of young black males?

has anyone out there ever tried to get out of town with NO FUCKING MONEY?

a bus ticket costs money

gasoline costs money

cars cost money

hotel rooms cost money

YES!!!! there are people who have no cash, who have no liquidity, no fucking means.

i guess, what business do they have being poor?

HOW FUCKING DARE THEY BE POOR!

and it isn't playing the race card, it isn't hurting any democratic agenda to mention race, it neither advances nor delimits any partisan agenda to speak of this.

it is a bald recitation of FACT.

not lots of pictures of Jesus with a "Bleeding Heart" ??? This should not be a bad thing...it should be the Christian thing.

2. It's always had a bad connotation.
Just the sound of it is sarcastic.

Now you KNOW we can't go around being too compassionate. We might teeter over into communism, then we'd have to give up our SUVs and credit cards!

3. About the time the repubs took over the House. The repub
think tanks and writers started going crazy. About the time Rush and Newt became popular. White male revenge. Anti-feminism.

4. Bleeding Heart is a euphemism for
Gives a shit. They can make up and call me all kinds of names, they aren't going to stop me from giving a shit. Maybe my heart will stop bleeding when they pull their knife from my back.

5. Facing up to the picture thats developing....
is a daunting task. I can only take in little bits at a time. Your words go so far and then I say no...can't be...but the truth is, as you say right there. Elephants all over the place.

7. Not just racism, don't forget classism.
There were also poor whites and hispanics who were left behind in NO too. Not nearly as many as black folks though.

9. I'd rather have a bleeding heart...
...than one made of stone! I don't care if people think it is a bad thing...won't stop me from calling them on their racist bullshit and lies! It also won't stop me from caring about all people, including the "stone-hearted' ones...though they do make it tough to care!

11. Another epithet they have for us,
which cracks me up even more, is "humanitarian do-gooder."

Like, WTF is wrong with being a humanitarian? Or doing good?
