I don't think Bush "should have" landed in NO for a visit.
There is a growing body of posts attacking Bush for not stopping in on the disaster site.

Bush would have been in the way had he landed. Seriously, there's plenty of points to criticize Bush on. I don't think this is one of them.

They can't even get near to adequate rescue teams together, why in the heck would they waste their precious time on the logistics of a Bush landing?

Interestingly enough, One of the reasons Bush can't visit is because the Feds and National Guard were so gutted by Bush that they are far behind in operations on the Gulf Coast. See what I mean? See how that works?

Just my own opinion.

1. You are correct the right move would be to crash thereby helping
the entire country.

3. Haley Barbour
agrees with you, as do I. Haley made an announcement earlier that Bush was not welcome in Mississippi as it would merely divert needed assets to protecting him rather than rescue.

Personally, other than delegating his power to someone else (maybe the Chief of the USCG), I would prefer that Bush stay far far away and out of touch.

19. Barbour was just covering for his disinterest
The fact is * sat on his ass while this was happening, showing no concern until public opinion suggested otherwise.

Should he have landed? Not in the disaster area. But keep in mind he could have visited the state capitals, minimized the resources to do so, or just taken a helicopter to survey the damage.

Or perhaps he could have sent Cheney, who presumably as VP would require less resources, and could spare the time (but as puppetmaster we know that's not true).

Bottom line is he didn't give a shit before, he doesn't give one now.

4. Well I'm sure he could have landed somewhere
and drove in to view the devastation.. Maybe not NOLA.. but it seems to me there were two other states devastated here too. Don't bother to make excuses for the unfeeling little prick, no one is buying his shit anymore.

9. no one is making excuses for Shrub! He needs to stay away from
any of the disaster sites! Can't you just see the SS, and caravan of SUV's and all, just causing all kind of disruption!

Should have just stayed on his damn vacation for the last day or so and chopped his damn wood!

but he managed to get his lazy ass to Fla within 48 hours of hurricane Charlie during an election year. I'm sorry, but I'm angry.

20. Believe me, I'm not making excuses.
a presidential visit is an enormous undertaking, I think diverting resources might have cost a life or two that will now be saved.

It is all so much worse than we thought, and it seems to get worse by the hour. Or perhaps I'm just letting it all sink in.

7. Where there is a will, there's a way...BUT
I do see your point. He may have been more of a hindrance than a help.

The people may have appreciated seeing him, though--maybe. That's hard to say...

12. Yes, it could only have been a visit to a refugee camp
miles and miles away from the front..

Especially this president, who is too chicken security wise. He would have been much more trouble than he is worth.

16. Are you kidding
most refugee's, at least the ones with great photo ops (Superdome), would strangle him. He'd need a 1,000 NG to tour the superdome.

15. If he* hadn't been sheltering himself* from the "sweaty masses" who
simply disagree with his* asinine policies, he* could have picked up a couple hundred on AF1 and flown them to that goddamned high-tech first class 1600 acre fucking "ranch" he* owns.

18. I agree.
He's apparently going on Friday, though. :eyes:

The law enforcement in NO has enough to deal with right now. They need to concentrate on saving, and improving the quality of, life. They shouldn't have to be preoccupied with scraping together the obscene amount of security that a presidential visit requires.

Bush needs to stay the hell away for a good chunk of time. NO residents have enough to deal with at the moment.
