Will We Really Get A True Death Count

After Katrina has found its way off the front page and now that the bush crime family has failed to protect the USA from another disaster will he asked that the dead count be suppressed much like it is in regards to the body count in Iraq.......

1. I just saw a scrolling marquee on two stations CNN and FOX that there are
110,000 dead in Mississippi alone.

No, I did not add too many zeros. One hundred and ten thousand!

7. Unless I'm losing my mind. .
first I saw the scroll on CNN and I ran and told my daughter, I went back to the TV and put on Fox, they had the same scrolling marquee saying that "dead may total over 110,000 in Mississippi" and I went up and told my son, then I came back down flipped to PBS got caught up in a Muddy Waters bio, watched that till ten and came back down and now I see nothing. I did a google search and nothing.

I don't know what to think. My eyes are pretty good, I don't think I misread anything. That's why I double checked.

who said the death toll may be over 100,000. the emphasis here should be on the word *may*

They said 100. One hundred. How did it get so high like that so fast?

2. We may never know due to the poverty of many victims
Poor people often don't have regular jobs, addresses, Social Security cards, or credit. They also don't get regular medical and dental care. These are the types of things that leave a trail of identity for people. So unless someone reports them dead or missing, people like that will be un-counted.

4. The place is still a wreck!
It may be weeks before they have a total of all the deaths. People will have to search through so much rubble. Unfortunately it's kinda like the tsunami situation in Indonesia was.

6. counting
Do you really think we got a true count of 9/11? I've met more than one person who claims to have lost a relative, only I can't find them on the roles.

8. I've wondered about the 9-11 death toll too
when I asked on DU ca 1-2 years ago, people from NYC said there was an election and many other reasons that so few died

not knowing the city, I just thought with so many there every day--and subways going under the buildings?????--there would be maybe 6-10,000 dead

people 'in the know' at DU said reported total seemed probable

14. no
most of the dead are poor, so who cares?

:sarcasm:

the racism and classism implicit in the official (non)response to this disaster is shocking and repugnant.

15. We won't know for MONTHS.
Many are missing. Some because they got the heck out of Dodge before it hit and haven't made contact with their families yet, others because (*shudder*) they're trapped in their submerged homes. We won't know the death toll until the cleanup is done. This looks like our tsunami, sadly.
