1. We all have to make sacrifices for the noble cause in Iraq. LA, MS & ALA
have to give their national guard. They coast guard have to wait a decade or so for new equipment. NO has to wait for updating their levee system. American has to wait for gas. The work we're doing in Iraq is important. Whatever it is that we're there for. Oh, making the oil safe from terrorists.

2. My Boss was in the Coast Guard and is still very
involved. He has been saying this for years.
Everything is old and falling apart.

4. Breaking down at record rates.
The Coast Guard's ships, planes and helicopters are breaking down at record rates, which may threaten the service's ability to carry out its post-9/11 mission of protecting ports and waterways against terrorism.

...The Bush administration wants to increase the amount of time it will take to replace a fleet that's among the oldest on the globe — older even than fleets owned by nations such as Algeria and Pakistan.

...Stephen Flynn, a maritime security expert and former Coast Guard officer, says the agency is "operating at the level, in many instances, of a Third World navy."

5. I nominated your post, Demonaut. but I think if you
change your headline, it might draw more readers.

You've got 20 minutes or so left, why not try something like "More Bush Incompetence:Coast Guard preparedness."

Just a suggestion.

8. Regarding Bush's 20-year plan:
"Snowe calls the idea a "violation of common sense" amid mounting concern that terrorists will try to sneak weapons of mass destruction into the USA through a port."
