Anyone else get the feeling all hell is about to break loose?
I am hoping it dosen't, more misery is not a good thing. But I have a sinking feeling that we about to see some cracks opening up.

Fuel prices up, food prices up, stocks going to get shaky, housing bubbles, and who the hell knows what else...

20. Movie was Airplane. But Ron Reagan mentioned today that coffee comes
into this country, usually by the Port of New Orleans, that there were warehouses full of it there. Please note the word "were" in the previous sentence

Folks, we are gonna be outta coffee. bush and the CEOs will be able to afford it, but the rest of us are gonna be kicking the habit soon.

26. The best coffee I've had (with the exception of European coffee...France,
and Holland were the best in Europe, imo), was in New Orleans about 20 years ago. It was magic, the coffee.

36. was it 'cold' brewed?
i don't know it that's the correct term. My uncle and aunt make it that way though, learned about it in NOLA at a B&B.

Basically, the grounds and water sit together for about 6-8 hours or overnite, then the plug on the brewbasket is pulled and it drips into a receptacle. Then you heat it to normal coffee temp. I had some at their house during a family reunion, and it was delicious.

not that tough to make, you just have to prepare ahead for the longer brewing time. They explained that the fact heat was not used during the brewing cycle made for a much smoother taste.

38. I'm not sure about the method! But whatever the food is, if it's in
New Orleans, it is the food of the Gods. I lived there for a year in 1994 to complete a residency, and even the jello salad at hotels was par excellence. I am in grief over the potential death of this wonderful city. (And obviously, not just for the coffee and food.)

41. It's called "Toddy Coffee"...
...and you can buy a kit with carafe, brewing container, and filters at many coffee shops.

There's also a brand of bottled cold-water concentrate (I think it's called "Victorian House"), that's available in grocery stores. Not as good as freshly-made, of course, but still miles above the canned and instant coffees on the adjacent shelves.

4. Well, all actions have opposite equal reactions.
The horror of the rise of the Bush/Neocon Revolution may take some pretty violent surgery to bring it to an end. Not wishing for this on any of us, but maybe it will be the price America has to pay...

15. But look who's paying...with their lives. Those in Iraq, and now those
in NOLA and the Gulf Coast States. How would you like to be ordered to evacuate, could not, went to the option (superdome in NO) and now are transported to another Dome in a different state? Refugees is what CNN referred to these people as being. I hate BFEE. Why aren't they the ones being punished instead of the good and poor innocents.

7. Yeah and I hate to feel this way.
I seem to be gritting my teeth a lot. It could be I am just so angry but really, it does all seem to be organizing for something nasty. It feels like society is about to break down in a major way. All we can do is be watchful I guess right now. Either that or the big foot of our "new" government is about to stomp on all of us.

32. Yes.
It is also one of my favorites, my husband went to Tulane and he is heartbroken.

What we are hearing about from NO, the crimes etc. are because they are stressed and desperate and see no help coming. I am afraid we are going to see it all over without those reasons. People are very, very angry and it worries me and then there is Bush** and his intentions we already know are not friendly to us.

The segment of society who always comes through for others are trying very hard to do the things that need doing but it seems the others are being almost encouraged to try to stop us and fight us. Maybe I am just in a bad funk tonight. Goodness knows there is plenty of reason to be but it just feels bad out there right now and I see I am certainly not alone feeling that way.

40. No, you are not alone in feeling that way. I'm sad and afraid that the
evil that this administration has been brewing since 2000 and before, will result in an awful calamity of some sorts...maybe even Civil War. I don't know. There have been too many lies, and too many injustices, and too many unnecessary deaths, and now this! And, as usual, the poor are the ones who appear to be taking the brunt. It grieves me.

Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 11:02 PM by zulchzulu
Yeah, a lot of shit is going down right now. The key is to be positive and maintain a sense of humor.

Look not at the bad apples....look at the helpers.... people who are helping, not hurting.

They give you hope in an otherwise seemingly hopeless World.
