Columnist belittles ‘peace mom’

Cal Thomas, in his column (“Here’s why you should meet with her (again), Mr. President”) concerning Cindy Sheehan, mother of soldier Casey, who was killed in Iraq, propagates the usual tired platitudes that the Bush administration always gives us to explain the U.S presence in Iraq. This is to be expected from Mr. Thomas, one of the administration’s best apologists and most condescending mouthpieces in the media.
But in his column he also manages to belittle Mrs. Sheehan, stating that she “has become a tool — and a willing one — of the far left,” and he implies that she merely has a political objective in her attempt to meet with the president.

How he got a column is beyond me.

Regardless of their political affiliation? No class.

I attended the peace rally and listened to Cindy Sheehan myself. She didn't sound like a cant-spouting useful idiot of the so-called "far left" to me--and I'm not an easy sell. She sounded very real and sincere--far more real and sincere than many of the mouthpieces and touts on the Far Right beating the drums for Imperious Leader.

I listened to Cindy Sheehan and was reminded of what Abraham Lincoln said when he met Harriet Beecher Stowe: "So you're the little woman who started this big war?"

Cindy Sheehan seemed to me to be a small woman who may very well have begun to put the brakes on the Banana Republicans' Big Sandy Mesopotamian Adventure.
