Mississippi River Levees
After the pounding from Katrina, is there any threat of levee failure on the Mississippi river side of New Orleans? Has anyone been sent out to inspect them?

I still remember living through the Midwest floods of 1993 and watching how the storm water gradually made its way down the Mississippi river, flooding the areas as it went along. I have not heard much about the rainfall dropped by Katrina as it moved inland. Many of the rivers catching the storm water (ie Ohio) will feed into the Mississippi.

Will there be aurge of water moving down the river? Will the levees will be able to handle it? I fear for what might still happen in the weeks to come.

Greg

No officials have mentioned it, no t.v. talking heads have brought up about the runoff from the storms as they moved across the country. Most of that rain ends up in the Mississippi and eventually in New Orleans.
They might not cause a failure of the levee, but the amount of water might flow over the sides. I noticed in photos that there isn't a lot of leeway at the top.
