In the days ahead, may I make a small request?
I have seen many things in my days, but I have not seen days like these last 3 days ever before. Hopefully, I will never see anything like this again.

My purpose for this post is not to lecture, speak down, or preach in any way. I apologize in advance if I offend someone, for that is not my intention. However, here goes....

I would like to suggest that we make a concerted effort to focus our energies, thoughts, and prayers on people who can use our help. Help people in any way you can. Perhaps it will be monetary help, or volunteering to collect and distribute essential supplies to those that are in need. Proudly, I have even witnessed people on this board who are acting as a conduit to either contact or gather information about others in our DU family who have not been heard from since the tragedy occurred. Others have offered prayers. For all of these reasons, I am proud to call myself a member of Democratic Underground.

Here is the part where I may offend:

Take a deep breath. Don't take the bait. Use your ignore button. Count to ten. Especially here in GD, where discussions have been....heated.

And also, for awhile, ignore GW Bush.

That's right. Ignore him. We all realize he is the worst president ever. If we didn't think that, we wouldn't be members here. His glaring inadequacies will come to light (they already have started to surface). Attacking him and focusing energies on his lack of leadership should not a reason why people do not act upon their natural tendencies to assist others in need.

Trust me, despite the best efforts of his handlers, his true being has emerged. It is being documented. It will be revisited. The time will come when EVERYONE realizes the emperor is naked. But for now, we should ignore him. Other people - real people with real problems - really need our help.

If I seem a bit preachy, I'm sorry. It was not my intention. And if you don't agree with what I have to say, that's OK with me as well. I just wanted to get it off of my chest.

Thanks for taking the time to read what I have to say.

12. They are trying to renew the Patriot Act while no one is looking
Staaap them!!! The Patriot Act has to expire. It did nothing for us, but take away much of our rights and freedom. It was great though for the gestapo.

8. We are going to need to focus our energy
on getting through this crisis. Bashing Bush at this point (and I have done plenty) will only suck that energy out of us. We need to work on pulling together instead and do whatever we can to help each other. That is the only way we will get through this.

7. im sorry, but that cannot be done
This man is a serious threat to our way of life and maybe the world. This is a golden opportunity to wake more people up to him. We have millions of people who are TOTALLY BLIND to whats going on and we need to make people aware of things like Bush playing guitar on Monday, Bush gutting funding for the levees and FEMA, Bush not taking phone calls from the mayor of NO, etc etc etc.

People need to WAKE UP TO BUSH if we are going to save this country. Yes, it is terrible that people are dying, but this country will die if what this monster is doing isnt stopped.

9. We are liberals.
We can multi-task.

;)

And Bush and his band of merry morans deserve every word of derision we can muster, singly and collectively. And then some.

the fire. The more they expose about Bush's incompetence the less work for us to do. People are dying and he's not going to slide on this. He's already had way to many free passes.

15. Well, my issue is...
While we all can help out now, and will be able to for some time, he could have done something when it truly mattered. It's horrible to think that while so many of us were glued to this from before the hurricane struck, he wasn't even caring. After it struck and we knew even further what kind of situation we were dealing with, he still wasn't caring. Finally, 2 and a half days after it strikes he acts like he cares for 2 or 3 minutes - never mind you he said nothing we didn't already know - and people have the nerve to praise him. Every MINUTE counts in a situation like this, and while we worried, he handled it like he would a business situation - too late, and without thought. Sick.

17. You make some good points. So do the dissenting posters.
On the one hand, we do spend a lot of time railing against boosh.
On the other hand, sometimes it is our ANGER that drives us to work harder toward a true democracy in this country.

Are we spending a lot of our "energy" on him? Yep. Point well made. The man is an energy VAMPIRE. He drains the blood out of all life.
Do a whole lot of people in this country need to be educated on the dangers this administration has brought us? Again, yes.

We need to continually point out that it is REPUBLICAN control of all branches of government that have created this situation, and NEVER AGAIN allow any one ideology to usurp the power of the people in this way.

Republicans have mastered politics.
Republicans know nothing of SUBSTANCE, action, or running a country in a way that benefits, or at least sustains, ALL of the citizenry.

The whole fiasco in the disaster zone REEEEEEKKKKS of the result of too much POLITICS. FEMA managers, mostly politically appointed, are a disaster in themselves. The rank & file were outplaced because they didn't drink enough republican kool-aid, so people who actually KNEW what they were doing, have been replaced.

Politics is all republicans know! They don't know ANYTHING about running a country in such a way that allows the citizenry to enjoy peace, security, and an ability to plan for a future based on rules that will hold in the long run...not rules that will be changed, willy nilly, when something else looks popular. Republicans have shown the country that they have no substance. They are a self-serving fraternity, and nothing more.

So, as someone said above; we're good at multi-tasking. We can not only help SAVE some people in the disaster zone, we can also help educate everyone on where the buck stops on this fiasco. And people need to know, so that it doesn't happen again.

:kick:
