Here's something to be pissed about....corporate America turns a blind eye
Please, correct me if I'm wrong (And tell me why - don't just post "you're wrong" in some smartass tone) but has any major copr, like Walmart for instance, handed out supplies to the victims of the Hurricane? Seems to me it would be, at least for shallow purposes, a terrific PR move.
Yet, we've seen none of this from the very people that always claim to be part of the fiber of the USA.
You'd think considering, most of the more effected victims are poor...because they work front line gigs for corps that pay nothing, that corps would want to help them out...and be concerned. Of course you'd only think that if you were very naive.

1. My company has donated $1M and is matching employee donations to $10K
They make computer chips, not anything that could help the victims directly but that's pretty cool. I think they should give more than a million but hopefully they'll come forth with more.

3. Every now and then a corporation comes up with a donation

for disasters like this, but it's so seldom that it's almost an anomaly. Yet small businesses do. In my area, one restaurant announced it would donate a dollar for every meal served and another one said they would donate their sales for one day to the disaster. Also, some of the restaurant waiters have pledged to donate a portion of their tips. Of course these aren't the Walmarts and other mega companies but the small mom and pop operations. Too bad isn't it that the rich guys can't follow suit.

7. I don't see why this time would be any different than
the aftermath of other disasters when companies send literally tons of stuff. It's a matter of getting it there and distributing it.

Major brewing co.s send canned and bottled water, too. A lot of stuff has to be trucked in, but yes, WalMart does send quite a lot.

That's good to hear. As I said, my rant is based on the fact I've not heard anything about corp aid on the news.

15. Yes, a lot is donated...
some of it is truly because they care, even thought the tax write off is nothing to sneeze at, either.

It also makes good commercials later. Cynical, I know, but it's true.

16. Yep, I agree, and don't forget, the oligarchy has many private corporate
jets they could have helped evacuate the superdome with, but, they don't care if some old folks die during the 7 hour busride to Houston, because, what good is someone past the age of hard labor anyway?
