I'm very impressed with Governor Blanco, Senator Landrieu and Mayor Ganer of NOLA. Note you're not seeing any Lousiana Repugnicans coming forward during this disaster (thank goodness).

As other have said, it's too soon to start playing partisan games with this disaster. There's too many of us here who are still in a state of anger and horror as to how the booosh regime is handling this situation (MIA again) and the racial slamming going on about those remaining in the city.

Hopefully the Governor's hard work will be recognized...while the lack of help from Repugnicans also noted.

La has a democratic governor and until recently both its senators were democrats. It's frustrating that they won that senate seat. The repuke candidate was truly awful.

I think the first thing to focus on is the obvious recovery effort which itself will take years, but it certainly has to be made clear by democratic politicians that you get what you pay for - meaning these are the reasons government collects taxes - partly it's for emergencies. I know in Al atleast, many of the residents are extremely anti tax. They have to know that with less taxes collected, you will get a shitty infrastructure. They can't have their cake and eat it too. You can't pay for a war, cut taxes, and maintain an infrastructure, especially in disaster prone areas.

But in this case, it has to actually be made a federal issue. Democrats have to hammer it home nationally that Bush's cuts in FEMA and his unwillingness to listen to the Army Corp's proposals shows an incredible negligence on his part - and the entire republican party - of the infrastructure in this country.
