When the Rhine flooded--
--got this in an email from a friend who has lived in Germany.

When the Rhine River flooded some years ago, it affected more people than there live between New Orleans and Biloxi because there are many major cities along the Rhine. Well, in Germany, the people from downstairs moved in with the folks upstairs (bringing their own beds, which was comical in itself), and the German military came along and built balcony-type structures above flood level so people could go for walks around the buildings or sit outside, 3 times a day the Bundeswehr showed up to deliver meals to everybody, pick up shopping lists and delivering the merchandise, and they even carried the people to work and back every day. They did all this in motorized rubber rafts which don't have to worry about the water being a bit shallow in some places. That's how emergencies of this nature are dealt with in real 1st world countries.

4. hardly comparable

For a similar catastrophe in Europe you would have to look back to Hamburg 1962 or the Netherlands in 1953.

11. The alligators are the least of NO's problems
It's the bacteria and the chloroforms that scare me.

I got an infection in my leg last May after I fall I took at a plant nursery and the damn thing still won't go away. This happened without any apparent cuts either.

6. When the Rhône flooded WITHOUT warning 2003
the City of Arles and a region big as all the southern parishes round NO, the measures quoted above in Germany were employed by the French FEMA, Police, firemen, Army.

Very few casualties, people out of harm's way within 24 hours.

And even dangerous prisoners were evacuated by Special Forces.

I understand the magnitude of the catastrophy in the US, but what's going on ?

Why refuse or ignore International help ?
