New Orleans - Audubon Zoo?
Have I missed something? I've seen nothing about the status of one of the premiere zoos in the country. I realize with all the human tragedy that it might be easy to overlook. Has anyone heard anything about the zoo?

1. All I've heard..
is that both the Zoo and the Aquarium fared quite well. It makes sense, since they're both on higher ground near the river. As far as fatality specifics.. a few of the flamingos have died. That's all I've heard so far.

I love that Zoo. And the penguins at the Aquarium.. :)

3. Here is an article that confirms tedoll78's report
The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans apparently survived Hurricane Katrina relatively unscathed according to a report in The Baltimore Sun. Hurricane Katrina hit the Louisiana city Monday.

According to Ron Forman, president of the Audubon Nature Institute that oversees the city's aquarium and zoo, only a few flamingos died and was little other loss of animal life. The Audubon Zoo also fared well in the storm.

4. I can't remember where.
I've been scattered over so many news resources.. the local news streams, CNN, MSNBC, DU, etc etc. This has been a sleepless week, to say the least.

5. What about all of the domestic animals? Did they flee, and how many were
lost or have no one to rescue them, with such an enormous castastrophe.

So sad, couldn't this have been prevented? Gov so busy paying to kill innocent people in other countries, that were unwilling to protect innocent people in this country.Horrible. so much loss.

7. Some animals were left behind...the SPCA did rescue a few hundred
or so.

Some have been seen in news reports, wandering or stranded. No way of knowing if they were left behind, or the sole survivor when their owners died.
