No One anticipated these levees breaking
there's their excuse folks. Haven't we heard this before? Pretzledent wants people to know help is coming.. totally bystepped dian Sawyers question if he was satisfied with the pace of the rescue. Zero tolerence of people breaking the law.. do what you can to get water and food.. but gas gougers, looters.. insurance scammers are all included.

1. this is just too damn much!
Louisianians KNOW those levees are vulnerable. There is fear every time the Mississippi reaches a critical floodstage - there are gates that can be opened, allowing some of the water to flow either through the Atchafalaya Spillway, or through Lake Ponchartrain. This takes pressure off the river levees. The Lake Ponchartrain levees were breached in 1995 after torrential rains. It isn't as if this is unheard of.

God, I hope someone refutes this! They must.

3. They state the obvious and call it an excuse.
Of course no one anticipated the levies breaking. That's the problem. Too busy cooking up lies to feed the public. Too busy with phony town hall meetings. Too busy working out or bike riding.
They never anticipate disaster because disasters are just another opportunity for the dear leader to show his concern and compassion. Disasters are nothing more than a photo-op.

11. But they did anticipate it and FEMA listed it in their top 3 potential
disasters as recently as Dec. of 2001.

16. But Bush didn't do a damn thing in the hours before the storm hit.
I'm not talking about imagining worst case scenarios. I'm talking about prepositioning troops and supplies and equipment. He did not-a.

18. Anticipating it and preparing for it are two entirely different things.
To say nobody anticipated it is false. To say no one acted on that anticipation and began preparedness measures is not.

4. This is what happens when you ignore infrastructure
in OUR OWN COUNTRY to pay for tax cuts for your buddies and the war for OIL in Iraq.

It's a CHOICE, stupid.

I'm in Ohio and even I knew about the levees in New Orleans. On Saturday and Sunday, most of what I saw on TV was about the worry of the levees being breached when flooding happened!!

I hope the average person doesn't fall for this shit again!

8. PBS did one scary show on NOLA over a year ago.
I just saw a bit of it the other night. The show said a direct hit could kill 40,000 to 60,000 people. Said the city could NOT be evacuated in time. Too many people with no means (money/method) to leave.

9. That's total nonsense! I AM LIVID!
I have heard about this for years! We all hear about this every time a Hurricane or storm even comes close to New Orleans!!!!!!

THE MSM HAS REPORTED BEFORE ABOUT THE LEVEES! So have many prominent politicians and scientists.

We have to get this information out there NOW before they shape this as if this was a miraculous disaster that noone could have anticipated.

10. Lived there
and knew, as did everyone else. But to the politicians in NOLA, ONLY THE FEDS could fix the problem. I had a real problem with the local govt not wanting to use resources and only relying on Uncle to pick up the tab.

15. Makes sense
I see your point. It seems like everyong took the "relax it won't happen to us" attitude. But in all fairness to the locals and the state, that type of project could only be financed to a feasible extent by the federal government, without the state and local governments having to increase revenue (taxes) or cut programs.

Just a piss-poor situation.

12. And nobody anticipated "terrorists" hijacking airplanes and flying them
into buildings.

What a willfully ignorant government at best, what a heartless organization of people at worst if they knew (and they knew . . . )

Same song, different key.

13. Hell's bells! There are even several SONGS about it
Like on 9/11, they couldn't anticipate an issue that their own agencies warned about only months before.

14. Failure to anticipate
would be criminal negligence.

You can't build a structure designed to hold back billions of gallons of water and yet fail to come up with a contingency plan for what would happen and how to deal with it if the structure did fail.

"No one anticipated..." should be replaced with "Everyone hoped...". Faith based disaster planning...well we just hope it won't happen instead of planning for it
