What about the cemeteries?

My ex's mom was raised in NO (now in NY) and he spent a lot of time in NO with his grandparents. Both grandparents buried in NO. I haven't been able to get this question (or thoughts of the probablities) out of my mind. Anyone? :cry:

I saw a photo on yahoo where the caskets were tossed around outside of a wall. I am not sure where it was. I will look for it again and post it for you. I am so sorry. :(

On a matter of sanitation alone, it's very dangerous to have these bodies in the water making it extremely toxic (especially when mixed with so many other contaminants).

Also, I know that in Florida in previous floods, caskets were floating. And this is much much worse.

This is a disaster of epic proportions.

The remains of the long dead are no significant threat to the living I believe. Nasty organisms don't survive on old remains.

IMHO we should all be far more concerned about man made pollution rather than anything organic.
Sewage, plant matter, little critters and so forth will degrade fairly quickly once the water is drained and the oxygen gets to it = compost.
Some of the man made shit will not degrade in our lifetimes.

9. Agreed, the bodies of the long-since deceased have

decomposed so far as to post no threat. The risk comes from raw sewage that is in the flood waters, chemicals in the flood water (from a myriad of sources), new casualties, etc. The health risk from cemetaries is minimal when compared to other threats.

12. People do not really decompose any more because of the chemicals

put into them. Which is why I intend to be cremated.

Not good. Above ground crypts typical in NO. Who knows what had happened.
Mr CB's parents and brother in-law are interred in a Masoleum near Slidell. They are in the top crypts in a marble building. We thought about them last night and think they are still there. We know someone buried in-ground at that same cemetery. Who knows what has happened. I would say caskets are probably out of the ground.

7. I'm so sorry to hear about that.

Their is a significant feeling of loss when you can't even visit the tomb of your loved ones. I hope to have my ashes scattered in a peaceful place, so my loved ones can visit and feel some form of connection.
