Why are there still people in the Superdome?
This is beyond ridiculous, it is criminal. It was criminal to put them there in the first place but that's a different issue. However, they've had since Monday afternoon to start getting people out of there and they did nothing until yesterday. As a matter of fact they contined to bring more people in.

Now all they can muster is a feeble effort lining up buses and filling them one at a time. When what they needed to do since Monday is focus a massive effort to get those people out using buses, boats and helicopters.

This place could have and should have been cleared by Tues night. Unfortunately, Bush was too busy learning how to play guitar and now he'd rather commit valuable resources to protect stuff instead of people.

PEOPLE ARE DYING and for the President to not do everything he can to get these people out of there is now a crime against humanity.

2. there is a fire in the building.. they are letting people out the doors
they have called every soldier back to the gate. I don't know if I heard them say to not let the buses stop. Moving soldiers to south side of building and hold the perimeter there.

10. I was on this board
screaming all day Sunday that they should not be putting all those people in that building.

They should have taken the city buses and school buses down to where the people were lined up outside the Superdome and start driving them out of harms way.

It was criminal to tell people that any site WITHIN the evacuation zone was going to be safe.

Safety was a short 1 or 2 hour drive west. The roads were clear by Sunday night because most of the people who could leave had already left.

If we anyone leading the country on Sunday this whole tragedy could have been avoided. But that was the problem, our leader went AWOL again and we were left to our own devices.

7. It's the looters, doncha know!
It is really because they had no plan coming into this disaster. When they made one, they directed it at saving property, not people. Now that it's too late for many in NO, it can all be blamed on the "looters" and not on the incredibly fucked up response - or lack thereof.

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 07:39 AM by dragndust
I think they should go get the "near dead" off of that highway, before they load up ALL those in the dome.

Edited: unaware of fire & shootings at the dome. Guess I should have read some previous threads.

11. They should be able to do both
at the same time.

Or at least drop those folks some tents, tarps and supplies.

You can be damn sure if they were white they wouldn't be there any more.

18. So yahoos on all other message boards
Can laugh with glee becuase this is happening to a city that is 67% black, but we can't say anything?

Funny if the attitude wasn't there, then where do all the yahoos come from?

Gee, we see people being treated like cattle, but hush our mouth.

Don't say anything.

Boy, did you see that picture of our great leader looking out the window of his airplane?

9. Right now its not going well
They have had to remove the people from the dome due to a fire.

This is causing problems with crowd control and getting the busses in to where the people are. They are loading them as fast as they can and getting them out. They can only bring in 10 sets of busses at a time (I think this is due to space) and from what I hear are doing the best they can with one hell of a horrible situation.

12. That's why they need boats and helicopters.
There's water all over the place and the river is only a few blocks away.

Helicopters. This was on the scanner and I've not seen it on the news yet. I don't know if they are just offered of if they are there or what.

15. Best they can do after they cut the funds for the Army Corps
They are talking about how the Bush administration cut funds in relation to the upgrading of the levees now, but I remember reading that the Army Corps was charged also with creating an evacuation plan for NO too.

I assume that was trashed by little britches' funds cutting, too.

If this is the best that they can do then they are lazy incompetent jacks, but we knew that.

And trudging people from one prison to another is unconscionable.

Yes, it is a prison if you take people a few hundred miles away.

One mother, as recorded by the Washington Post, hadn't even found her teenage daughters yet.

As dangerous as this world is, one needs to be able to know where one's teenage girls are.

22. Someone explain to me
How a city that is majority black, with a black mayor and city council, black police, etc., etc. can be racist.

I'm sorry, incompetence I buy, not racist. Hell, no one else -- including the tourists, were any better off. They stayed in the ballrooms of their hotels, with all their windows blown out, no water, not much food (most have already ran out), etc.

The superdome wasn't a great place, and something else should have been done, but racist? Your seeing it through colored glasses.

23. The mayor did not have the resources
he needed nor the authority to do much about it anyway. Bush won't even return his phones calls. But Bush had time to talk to his good friend the Gov. of MS at least three times.

The racist is GEORGE BUSH and his gang. The poor mayor from NO and the people there are doing the best they can. There is no fault to be found with them.
