Outside help that's been offered: does anyone know
who has offered and what our response has been? Have we actually turned down offers of help? If so, add that to the list of offenses because it's clear that help is sorely needed.

1. I can think of three off the top of my head
Canada, Venezuela and France.

Google and double check what each offered. As to any aid being accepted none has of yet.

3. Also read that......
the Dutch, Germany, China and Japan have offered help - no word on whether it has been accepted or not.

4. That's right
I remember reading that, too.

We're doing such a great job we don't need any help from other countries.

Considering how loved we are internationally now, we should be grateful that any one still cares what happens to us.

5. OH NO
If our government were to accept help from another country...that would mean the Prez has failed in some manner on his Watch.

Not gonna happen.

7. Link to U.S. State Department Briefing, August 31, 2005.
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/dpb/2005/52376.htm

QUESTION: Have the foreign governments that you can tell us about come forward, possibly with condolences, possibly with offers of assistance in the hurricane aftermath?

MR. MCCORMACK: We have had a number of offers of government assistance to aid in the search as well as reconstruction efforts. These are general offers of assistance at this point. I don't have a complete list here, Barry, so I don't want to start naming off countries and leave somebody off because these offers of assistance are starting to come in. We appreciate each and every one of them, and we are going to work in the coming days and weeks with foreign governments to see how we can best channel these offers of assistance with relation to what the needs are that are out there.

QUESTION: On the --

MR. MCCORMACK: Yeah, Charlie.

QUESTION: I've got a couple of questions related to Katrina. First of all, you don't want to start naming names, but can you tell us whether you're talking about two, three, seven, a dozen, two dozen?

MR. MCCORMACK: I think somewhere in the neighborhood of, you know, ten to twelve at this point.

10. Thanks, nesco-that's what I was looking for. At least
that response wasn't a flat out "no". Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and they'll swallow their hubris to allow help to arrive.
