Why did a rich, connected guy like Limbaugh need a dealer?
Couldn't he find some quack to perscribe him all of the vicodin he wanted?

Also, how long before Rush blames the clenis for all of this?

1. oxycontin (sp?)
is one of those "triple script" dealies, I'm told that is carefully monitored by the DEA. Docs can get in hot water for prescribing too much and the record trail can nail them

Just buy it from your friendly local dealer and you don't have to worry about all that paperwork.

10. If it is so heavily controlled, then where do the dealers get them?

12. it's not that difficult......
dealers have their sources too. someone who gets the pills for a condition may sell them or trade them for other drugs...i have personally known some people who get a large number of painkillers per month that even they know they don't need. they use what they need and sell the rest.

also, don't be shocked by the number of pills he may have been ingesting...i have worked with addicts in a detox for several years...it is not uncommon to see people come in taking 25-30 lorecets, percocets or whatever their drug of choice is. i have detoxed people who were SHOOTING 10 to 20 oxycontin per DAY and functioning.

resistance to opiates and synthetic opiates(oxy's or methadone)builds quickly, just like resistance to heroin(poppy), which all opiates are derived from. an opiate detox is a hard, painfull process. ours starts with a 5 day minimum and i have seen methadone detoxes last as long as two weeks...this is detox though, not treatment...there is a difference.

rush better brush up on his 12 steps and find a good NA chapter. he is now an addict untill the day he dies....

3. Take it with a grain of salt - I heard this from a coworker...
He's blaming it on his housekeeper. Supposedly, she gave him some extra pills from her husband's prescription once, and when those ran out, he insisted she get him more. That's when she turned to the black market.

4. Joe McCarthy Got Heroin from the Surgeon General
so he wouldn't be caught doing business with a drug dealer. Surprise Rush wasn't smart enough to use his political connections to do something similar.

5. Most of the drugs that Limbore got. . .
were also what is known as "Schedule II" controlled substances.
Doctors that prescribe large quantities of any of them are watched
and must produce medical records showing medical necessity and
identifying the patients that received them. Generally, these
"heavy hitter" meds are prescribed to people with serious health
problems/pain (such as people with cancer, accident and burn victims).
The result of a negative DEA check would mean that the doctor involved
would lose their license and face jail time.

No legit physician would have worked with RL to get these meds,
regardless of the amount of money paid. Like every other junkie
he had to use a dealer.

8. no doctor will lose his license for you, DEA monitors this
It used to be that, yes, if you were middle-class, let alone rich, you got all you needed for yourself and even for your parties from your doctor. Only the poor needed street drugs other than pot and LSD. I remember my mom's friend with a big bottle of hundreds of barbituates which she received by prescription.

These days, you must file a DEA report each time you prescribe scheduled drugs. The computer decides if you are over-prescribing and yanks your license. Since no one seems to know exactly how the computer decides what is too much, many doctors refuse to prescribe adequate drugs even for treatment of severe pain, even for terminal cases. I could tell you a personal horror story caused by doctor's refusal to prescribe pain medicine, but we all have one if we know anyone who is older or who has cancer.

Rush was using or distributing at parties such quantities that a doctor would have lost his license -- his livelihood -- over it.

my mother was given a medicine that turned out to be high strength tylenol only five days after quadruple bypass surgery

9. Right! A Doctor In My Town. . .
. . .was recently shut down, charges are pending, and his license suspended for overprescribing drugs. He was a hack, really, and his practice was scrip writing.

But, the DEA and IL DPR both had him on the radar. They went in and took him out in cuffs about 3 months ago.

So, they do watch doctors for this kind of stuff.
