Gas Rumors Cause Panic

"The last time I saw people in line was during the 70s during the OPEC embargos like this," said Karen Scott as she filled up at the Chevron on DeRenne Avenue and Bull Street.

If the price pains at the pump weren't enough, Savannahians were all faced with another problem Wendesday--long lines sparked by rumors that if you don't get gas now you won't be able to for days.

"They said get gas now here because there's no gas in Savannah," said Bobbie Orr as he waited in line for gas.
"Everybody's panicking so I'm trying to fill up too," said customer Kennie Keye.

....

NEWS 3 contacted several gas stations throughout southeast Georgia on Wednesday. Only one station--the "El Cheapo" on Montgomery Crossroads and White Bluff Road--was concerned the station might not be able to get gas for the next three days.

1. happening in Charlotte NC as well
I wish my husband did not have to work out of his car for a living. Luckily, I can get by walking the kids to school, walking to the store and church.

2. I saw on CNBC the pipeline is down.
They said the pipeline was down because it required electricity to pump gas through it. They also mentioned that 70% of transmission lines were down in the area. Running out of gas in the states that rely on these pipelines doesn't sound like a rumor to me.
