Why isn't the US gov accepting foreign aid?!?
So far, the Canadians, Russians, and Venezuelans have stated they have aid standing by and are waiting for the call. Now France is preparing to do the same.

What is the US gov. waiting for? It's pretty clear the fed, state, and local disaster preparedness isn't up to snuff, and too many assets are deployed in Iraq.

I remember going to Memorial Day ceremonies in my hometown, and every year they'd play some ranting speech on how the US helps out the world but no one helps the US. Well, I hope they skip that speech next year. Maybe the feds are just too damn proud to accept aid.

Pride goeth before the fall.

2. * is personally in charge now. You know how incompetent he is.
Imagine him accepting help from anyone else when it's beginning to look like he's responsible for most of the mess. And even worse, what happens if they do a better job then he can provide?

3. You don´t need the help - it´s just national lip service
What you need now is to know that the world is thinking about the people of NO.

8. Actually we do need the help.

It is obvious we don't have enough NG troops to fulfill the need and fight a meaningless war in Iraq. I'm not so sure we would have enough people to help even if we weren't fighting a war. That's how huge this problem is.

We still need to have people transported out of the flood zone.

We need first aid and medical care for the injured and chronically ill.

We need clean drinking water

We need food.

We need shelters, which can be set up. Hotels can't put people up for the next 3-4 months.

We need clean up crews, electrical and telecommunications crews.

There's plenty for everybody, Americans and internationals, to help with.

Come on, everybody, I say!

9. I believe you have the resources needed already in the US
What´s lacking is the decision and will to distribute it to NO area and the people in it.

The only government that can actually help at this stage is Canada which seems to have access to some joint emergency relief system.

All other countries need to get information about possible needs and wants from the US government. The international community can´t just start sending supply planes.

I am sure every country would love to help out, especially where they have special competences such as the Dutch with their special engineering competence or the Germans with their hard earned flooding experience.

Then there is the question if the US wants/needs military resources like field hospitals or tents etc. or civilian rescue assistance.

As for us regular folks abroad, we can mainly send money (as I did yesterday) to relief organisations.

But the support calls do not help the people of NO, they only serve as comfort to the rest of the US.

10. Then you don't know
the extent of the disaster.

That will become increasingly clear in the coming days and months as the admin fails to respond.

Oh, I forgot to add construction crews to help with rebuilding.

It really shows the administration in a bad light.
