in Savannah Georgia and the race divide (which is also the economic divide) is so obvious. My sister comes to visit me (she moved to Savannah too) and she always remarks how nice it is that you actually live in an integrated city (it pisses her off beyond belief the way the blatant racism of where she lives.


I know that any person black or white left if they have money, but I guess what upsets me is that from what I see on tv the white people HAD more money to get out (the majority of them)........... which I'm glad they did, but I can't stand the fact that these people were left behind to suffer.

There is a big racial economic divide ... got better under Clinton ... Under the Chimp, everyone got poorer and minority communities were the hardest hit.

It is (was) one of the poorest cities in the US.
People could make do without cars there. So the poor ones could not leave, because nobody will take on hitchhikers at a time like this, of the kind that had no money to contribute to the gas for 10+ hour traffic jams in scary desperate times.

The fact that the masses in NO now are black is therefore explained.
The sadness that this raises the issue of racism and fans the old flames is horrible.

People will behave according to: Survival of the Fittest.
No matter what color they are.

When people feel abandoned, and think they are on their own and no real help will come in time, all bets are off.

History, and literature prove this point, that is why we have survival behavior in NO now, in a society that is armed to the teeth, rather than the pulling together people do in disasters if they can see an end to the misery.

This is not the case in this tragedy, where inattention and pre-occupation with things other than what is best for the populace have consumed the thugs at the top.

I am so angy, and so depressed. You already know all that, but I had to say it again.

I am sure the rest of the world has noticed as well. FUCK BUSH!

ahhh...that is all that the media is showing. i`m sure there are just as many "white" people that never made it out. if you took a sample of a cross section of the blood types you would discover there really isn`t any black or white race in new orleans.there is just the dead and dying
