Clerk at gas station, "we're almost out, no more is coming"

told me that the tankers would stop running at noon, and that stations on this busy road were already out.



seems almost trivial compared to what survivors on the Gulf coast re going thru, but I can't help wondering how bad its going to get across the country if people can't get to work, and food can't be delivered to stores, etc...

profile. I asked because at least one gas station in the North (RI) was also out yesterday afternoon. Just trying to figure out how widespread this is.

I predict we are going to see a lot of this in some areas of country next week and maybe for a few weeks. Hopefully not months.

Having lived through the even/odd days of the 70's I'm having a sense of déjà vu.

One station near my house is filled with cars and trucks that ran out of gas while in line.

I'm wondering why there would be widespread gas shortages?

The oil/gas from the Gulf comprises 10 percent of our total US oil/gas.

I can understand higher prices, but not shortages.

I'm wondering why this man said, "No more gas is coming."

Maybe I'm missing something, and I apologize if I am!

There were two major pipelines from NOLA that supplied the southeast and east coast. The supply has, of course, been disrupted.

Reopened this morning, the other is not up to the point where it can be restarted, but I understand it is getting close.

In Brunswick, GA...i bought gas yesterday morning for $2.50...at the same gas station this morning, it was $3.30...and most gas stations here only have premium left..which is much more..and people are still lined up to buy it...then it is gone...no one seems to know when we will get more of it.

the tankers were still rolling and they were expecting to get more today or Friday.

Our Gov. had a press release last night, and he explained that although 4 pipelines weren't working yet, most of our gas comes in at the port so the problem is very temporary. He has several phone 3's set up for people to report price gouging and he will send the owners of the stations to jail for that!

Late last night I also heard that they have 2 of the four pipelines functioning again.

That's very important, because if they hadn't, they were going to have to shut down Atlanta Airport!

On temporary generators which will only last for a couple of days.

We are FAR from past this crisis.

Alpharetta-based Colonial Pipeline Co. was pumping at 25 percent to 35 percent of capacity.

Plantation Pipe Line Co. also started pumping at 25 percent.

The pipelines had gone down when they lost electrical power at pumping stations hit by the hurricane.

Getting the flow back up to speed is critical, said Jonathan Cogan, spokesman for the Energy Information Administration. "This has affected everywhere along the chain, from the product to consumers. It doesn't look good."

The start-up by Colonial might seem modest, but it may help cushion the area from the worst effects, said James Williams, chief economist of WTRG, an energy consulting company.

"This will go a long way toward getting things back to normal," he said. "It's like one lane that gets started after an accident closed all four."

The one with the $5.60 price that everyone's been posting

I think they're just talking about fines, etc. No one will be arrested for gouging gas customers.

I was there (BP) at 7:00 this morning to top off, lines were packed, they only had mid grade and high grade, and they only had 2,000 gallons between them left. They said corporate offices (supply) told them it could be days before they get more. They figured they would be completely out of gas before noon.

It will filter up through the rest of the nation. Gas prices will soar (already are) and shortages will will be rampant. A significant portion of the US oil & gas supplies come through the gulf, via pipeline and barge up the missisippi. It will take months for it to settle out.

is because most businesses operate on a JIT (just in time) inventory schedule. The problem with that is, if there's ANY glitch at all, those companies will be out!

I have a friend who works at a convenient store. She told me the manager said when the gas they have is gone, they are not getting any more.

in western NC but it's pumping again today. $3.26/gallon.
