carrier, the USS Lincoln, went to the scene and provided enormous quantities of fresh pure water. It has amazing facilities for this - the water is necessary for ships with nuclear reactors. Don't have time right now, but I posted on this at the time and will go back and get the information. Ssearch-and-rescue mission helicopters were also quartered on the ship.

Aircraft carriers like this need to be working around the south coast to provide fresh clean water. I'll get the info later and post it in a new thread - will link to it here.

I was drafted in 1971, I'm 53 years old and have seen the Watts Riot and plenty of other disasters as well as having been in scramble squad situations, flying in both KC 135's, Hughs 500Ds, and C5A Galaxies so I know a little about getting people in and out of situations, like in Vietnam.

THEY KNEW that these Leevees were not going to hold, they'd been build to withstand Catagory THREE hurricanes. Bush and pals diverted money to Iraq and the Army Corps of Engineers were left so low on cash (having lost 80% of their funding for this) that they didn't even have enough funding to START working.. nada, zilch..

I suppose you believe that spending 300 Billion in Iraq while exporting the very Troops that WOULD have saved thousands of lives here was a good idea.. one that was based on lies, rather than the FACTS that the Leevees were going to get hit and that storms have been getting more furious and coming more often.

The KNEW the levees were going to break? I recall the night of the storm all reports were NO had been saved due to the storm shifting and weakening. There was minimal damage and most reports out of NO were fairly rosey. People were partying in the French quarter.

Sure there is emotion... more could have been done to prevent this kind of disaster, and even more could have been done following the hurricane to care for the victims.
