The order to "stand down" is an unlawful...
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 11:33 AM by Birthmark
...and unConstitutional order. Obeying the order condemns many innocent people to death in a sort of guilt by association. It is not necessary to obey an unLawful order. Surely some commander will have the backbone to stand up and do what's right and label this unlawful, inhumane, inhuman act for what it is.

GET THOSE PEOPLE HELP! NOW!!!!

1. I get the feeling there is a desire by TPTB to have great "civil unrest"
I wonder why...

it can't be greed for oil profits or reconstruction like Iraq....can it?

3. What are you talking about?
It sounds interesting, but how about a little context?

4. We are condemning innocent people to death...
...based on the behavior of others. This is patently unConstitutional. Military personnel take an oath to defend the Constitution. It's time for them to step up and refuse to condemn their fellow citizens, and children on the basis of an illegal order.

5. I agree...
The oath I took (as I recall*) mentions the Constitution twice and the President once...

I can imagine someone on the ground refusing that order on humanitarian grounds...

Of course, I'd have to imagine it, because I doubt an officer above the rank of O-3 having enough backbone to do that.

*"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

6. That's how I remember the Oath
But it's been a long time. The UCMJ explicitly states that unlawful orders can be contested. I think that there's a Presidency in it for any General with the spine to take charge, and get water, food, and rescue to the people of NO.

There's at least a folk song.
