This morning, I had a bite to eat, water to drink

and running water to brush my teeth and take a bath. I was able to turn on the lights. I opened a window and got a fresh breeze. My refrigerator has some food in it. My freezer has popsicles. There are two extra cases of water. My car is full of gas. I know where my family members are today, I can call them later to see if they changed their minds about what they will do today. In today's America after Katrina, I am rich.

Another citizen of the United States has all of those things too. He is president of the United States. He had the ability to help people leave a city that was to be inundated with water. He had the ability to order transportation for the poor. He had the capacity to have the National Guard ready to help people. He had the capacity to have water ready and the very best of America ready to help after this.

He had the power of the presidency and used it to go on vacation and fundraise at a 5 star resort while our fellow Americans were trying to survive by sticking their heads out of the roof if they were lucky, while others drowned in their own homes, while they dropped dead on the street from exhaustion and dehydration, while civilization eroded because there weren't resources for law and order. America's president flew over the scene and not one person got water, food, or a place to stay because he was the president.

America's president did this and we all watched it together. My horror limit is now so much higher than it was and the worst is yet to come. I weep for all us.

1. Great post
Recommended....

I've donated to the Red Cross but somehow I don't feel that's enough. I've got to find another way to help.

4. Thank you. Please, if possible donate blood as well.
I keep thinking about Habitat for Humanity and how it would be to give hope to so many people, the survivors, who wanted to rebuild their houses.

2. He is showing Americans just who he is and who he cares about.
If this doesn't bring him down, nothing will.

3. Common people and what they are doing...
People in Atlanta and all over the south are opening their homes to refugees from the Gulf Coast. I wonder how many will be invited to stay in the White House, or the Crawford Ranch?

and Bush should offer to trade places with someone who is devastated so he can learn the meaning of compassion.
