Are the shootings and some violence myths?
Heard this mentioned in passing on CNN.
Questions about if the reports of shootings are arising out of fear.
Any more info on this?

9. Do you think the woman who called in to Rachel Maddow
saying her relative, the civil sheriff of NO, has asked her to get the word to Congress that they are desperate for help? That his witnessing escaped armed prisoners attacking nurses is false? Why would someone do that? Do you think everything is on the scanner? How can we argue about the details of the horror? It is simply a horror. Peace.

11. Not everyone is on this channel
I'm sure they have some secured channels. But, I'm not believing it is too dangerous for our troops to do their jobs. That's all I'm saying

12. Why would a woman testify to Congress about babies being removed ...
... from incubators by Iraqis stealing the incubators??? IT WAS A LIE! A FRAUD! Do you not think there are such sick people who'd perpetrate such frauds? This one testified to Congress in the first Iraq war, for God's sake ... calling on the phone is NOTHING.

14. They do need more help there
I don't think anyone is trying to dispute that fact. Suspending rescue and aid services isn't going to make a bad situation any better, however.

We need more National Guard on the ground there to help pass out MRE's and water for a start. I think the idea of air dropping those is pretty good. Frees up more bodies to work on other things. Then we need them to organize a more expedient evacuation of the people suffering. We needed these extra NG there from the very beginning. Things have degraded to the point that they are due to a lack of leadership and much needed guidance. As it sits right this moment they are only going to get worse as these peoples suffering increases.

As it is now there are just too few peace keepers and time is running out for many of the population.

10. That's all I've heard, too
I haven't listened for a full 24 hours, however. Still, they don't sound panicked enough for it to be as dangerous as we keep hearing the media say.

5. Yes, they are trying to scare the media away, Why?
Well they don't want them to show the devastation, horrors and neglect on their part.

6. I'm sure there's some truth and some myths...

...mixed together. I asked on another thread if anyone had seen footage of these bands of armed thugs that were supposedly stalking around New Orleans and I got some snarky responses but so far no one has said that they've seen any footage of these guys. I'm not saying they weren't out there but after hearing about them several times and not seeing any footage of them I got a little skeptical. There was one report saying that they were going aroung wearing fur goats and carrying guns. It kinda reminded me of those rebel fighters in Africa (I forget which country) that used to don womens' gowns and wigs while terrorizing the country. But still no photos of these guys in New Orleans. I'm being cautious about what I believe.

15. This was before Dharfur.
It wasn't the jungaweed, who I think are Arab. These gown and wig-wearing killers weren't Arab.

7. I've seen reporters working hard to dispel this idea. They are begging
for the gov't to show the fuck up.

They are saying it is safe.
After all, there are loads of media folks there, they got in - why can't the damn gov't show up?

8. It is true, I have talked to people in New Orleans and it is true.
It may be being exagerated, but it was described to me as "Uptown is a war zone and we are getting the fuck out of here."
