Bush's Contempt for Government
Aren't we actually witnessing the goals of the conservative movement in the Gulf Coast? Isn't this the realization of Grover Norquists dream of a government that deals in defense/offense matters only?
The free market was supposed to meet the needs of our society, what could not be bought and sold could go to hell.

While this administration has been feeding a contempt for government and the work it has done for decades, they have been busy eroding our institutions into incompetence. This is their philosophy in action.

We can only hope our Democratic politicians step up to the plate and save this country.

1. You're right. And this should be screamed from every rooftop
in the country. THIS IS THE COUNTRY REPUKES WANT YOU TO HAVE. The rich loll in decadence, while the poor are trampled and killed.

4. Just don't forget
In with all the issues of "free market" and government, that what we have is actually fascism. It's not capitalism, it's not socialism, and it's not a totalitarianism (yet), but it IS fascism. Government owned by business, though not openly and honestly. Our government is not controlled by the people, they are not following any meaning or intent of the constitution, and with that, they subverted the vote and the will of the people.

Free market just means government...the same types of governments as what we see in the White House right NOW...don't completely control commerce.

You trust them to do a better job than the ordinary guy...while watching the results of Katrina?? THAT is what the free-market people mean. THAT is why they tend to reject government controls. THIS is what a corrupt government does, and can you imagine how much worse we would be...will be...if they controlled all the businesses too? Not just those lock-step in line with their crooked agenda, but if they had control over ALL businesses???

When business can break, subvert or mold the law to make a profit, some will, being controlled by ordinary humans. When governments grow out of control, trying to step all over their people, gaining control and power, facilitating an acquired royalty, they will, being controlled by ordinary humans.

Put the two together, the definition of fascism, and you've got what we have now; better profits through human manipulation. It perpetuates injustice while it perpetuates itself. Look at our media; they've lied to us and cost us a nation. But what can we do to them, for the lies? They were going along with the government.

Can only hope the Dems are any better.
