What the hell does that matter when people are dying.

Do people outside of the SE know that people are dying? If you dont have CNN or NBC.. are you fully aware of what is happening right now?

My inlaws dont have tv. They have seen one pic in their newspaper. They dont believe me when I tell them what is happening. They cant comprehend that there arent hundreds of helicopters and boats. They just seem in awe.

1. I went off on a co-worker
Showed her images from the internet. Put it in perspective. People are dying right now. Had to end with the president playing the guitar Tuesday.

4. What happened to us?
I mean.. I used to believe that underneath it all, we were really good and just. We didnt always show it.. and sometimes it took some nudging...

But right now.. Im not so sure that many of us have our priorities straight and our heads screwed on correctly.

3. I don't know about anywhere else, but people in Missouri care
Of course we have record breaking floods still fresh in our collective memory in this state. Even my most conservative neighbors, coworkers and friends are empathetic with the plight of those in New Orleans. That's because twelve years ago is was us who were shown in those TV shots, wet, cold, homeless, stranded without hope. It changed this state and our residents permanently.

So yeah, there are some "average Americans" out there whose focus isn't on the price of gas, but instead, the cost of the human tragedy unfolding before us.
