Help out at Craigslist.org

I have been feeling as helpless as everyone else around here watching the news for the last 3 or 4 days and wracking my brain up here in Michigan as to WHAT I can do to help. I don't have much extra money to spare (actually none), what with gas prices going ever higher and trying to keep gas in my tank to get to work, I can barely afford to donate $10 to the Red Cross. My heart is breaking for these people.

Mind you, I am a single mom with 5 kids. I do receive child support and I have a job. I just moved into a bigger house because we were growing out of the old one. I rent. If I make my kids give up a room (they can-I already sleep in the den), I can help someone out for a few months. Would it be tight, yes, but so what. I can always make food go around. I have clothing my kids have outgrown, etc. Actually, compared to many, I now see that I have it all! A roof over my head, food, water, a washer and dryer, a car, a job, a bathroom for cripes sake! I have a yard to mow and sit in and a front porch.

There are hundreds of people all over the United States offering spare rooms, second homes, basements, apartments, travel trailers, etc. for the victims left homeless by the hurricane to live in for the next few months or whatever. Here is your chance to help--go to craigslist.org and pick one of the hardest hit cities on the right and go to the housing section and post a spare room or whatever. We can all help. Granted these people are not going to be checking the Internet right now but they will be in the days and weeks to come. They will find you. It was reported yesterday on NPR and now CNN has reported it too - to go to craigslist for help.

I fear it will be up to us ordinary Americans to give these people shelter, food and a fighting chance and if I have to tighten my belt to do it, I will. It's something at least.
