* start desensitizing Americans to the issue of military domestic involvement;

* maybe even get rid of that pesky Posse Commitatus law out of their way


and, in the process, a few freebies:

* get a bunch of people off the welfare rolls

* have a chance to feel oh-so-superior by telling people they deserve their fate since they were too stupid or otherwise unworthy to get the hell out of NO in time

There was a woman interviewed on CNN who is trapped in the Ritz Carlton. She said the Ritz had arranged for busses to come in to get its guests out, but FEMA COMMANDEERED one of the buses, and won't let the others thru. There is no reason for that except -- they don't want people to be saved.
