Clinton: Nobody thought this was going to happen
I wish he wouldn't do that. He's right we need to focus on the living, but we don't need to be an apologist for the Bush Administration.

3. He's being a jerk but it's kinda a presidental policy to not criticize
other presidents after you leave office. Everyone pretty much has followed that except Jimmy Carter

16. He would not be criticizing a president.
He would be criticizing a fucking idiot coward who was installed by SCOTUS.

they have been talking about the levees for years.

4. Clinton has the classic desire of a great many politicians:
He wants to be liked by everybody.

Accordingly, he will avoid saying anything that might offend someone or cause someone not to like him.

5. Bullshit, the Discovery Channel had a program
on months ago, one of those superdisaster thingys -- they said NOLA was dead in the water if a Cat 5 hurricane hit them.

Bill, I am ashamed of your sucking up to the Bushies.

9. Yeah, I don't understand why he's changing the diapers on both
of them. No amount of sanitizing is going to clean up their shit. He really is making me wonder if he's suffering from Stockholm's Syndrome. If they had done to me what the RW did to him over Monica Lewinsky, Hell would freeze over before I would ever step up to bail them out of a sinking ship.

10. I got the sense that he was talking....
...specifically about what happened with the Superdome. He kept referring to the Superdome. Maybe he'll re-think the situation when the death toll numbers come in.

that Clinton was trying to lessen the criticism of the Bush administration's poor handling of the situation.

13. Sounds like Clinton's being diplomatic
Nothing good would come out of Clinton lashing into Dumbya at this moment.

Best thing to do is ease a few concerns and get the job done. Stay positive and level-headed. That's one of the reasons we liked him, right?

I think people here are overreacting a tad.

19. This is NOT the time to be diplomatic. Negligence has caused death.
Bush stopped the work on the levees. He was warned, and you say this is overeacting? I beg to differ. We need more outrage not less! Why should Clinton be polite while genocide is being practiced in our own nation???????

24. You can't change the past
Bush fucked up by not acting sooner. Now it's time to be level-headed and clean up the mess and beef up the rescue effort. A pissing match between two presidents is not going to help. It will only make matters worse. And Clinton tearing Bush a new one will only make him look petty and vindictive.

38. I disagree. Someone has to do it.We need a leader.
I And "looking petty and vindictive " is a small price to pay for saving lives! Another thing, This doesn't make Dems look good. They look callous to be so worried about how things might play. The nation wants answers .Why don't the Dems?t is obvious nothing is ghoing to be done. They can't even get water.

saying that and was thoroughly disgusted. My respect for him was substantially lessened. He and Hillary have certainly changed or perhaps they fooled a lot of people.

Well fuck that. We've got fucking satellites in space that can read your newspaper- am I supposed to think that they couldn't predict that there would be bad damage? That's bullshit and it's an insult to thinking persons everywhere.
