Dennis Hastert has a lot of explaining to do!!!!!
In an interview in Chicago.

<<snip>>

Asked in an interview with the Daily Herald, a suburban Chicago paper, whether it makes sense to spend billions rebuilding a city that lies below sea level, a reference to New Orleans, Hastert replied, "I don't know. That doesn't make sense to me."

He added it was a question "that certainly we should ask. And, you know, it looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed."

Hastert expressed sympathy for victims of the hurricane and said "we are going to rebuild this city. We can help replace, we can relieve disaster."

At the same time, he said "we ought to take a second look at it."

1. I'm sure that if Newt Gingrich's klan infested district were...
below sea level and flooded that BILLIONS upon BILLIONS would be spended to rebuild it.

:argh:

2. I called my Senators and Rep about this
All offices said they were unaware of Hastert's comments, but agreed with me that they are highly inappropriate at a time when people are still dying in NO. Even the one Republican office agreed that the comments were inappropriate. I pressed to get my elected officials to at least comment on Hastert, but I of course got no firm agreement to do so.

Call your elected officials and get some action going.

3. Yup, that's my rep - that's our boy...
Makes me so proud to be in his district when I read about what he actually thinks. :sarcasm:

One of our neighbors has a pu truck with a bumper sticker that reads "The Coach is my Speaker" or some similar drivel. I try to avert my eyes when I drive by and try not to read but seem to glance over there each time - such mind pollution.

4. ah but the response to that is pretty smart
http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breakingtp/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_Times-Picayune/archives/2005_09.html#075833

“That’s like saying we should shut down Los Angeles because it’s built in an earthquake zone,” former Sen. John Breaux, D-La., said. “Or like saying that after the Great Chicago fire of 1871, the U.S. government should have just abandoned the city.”

11. This must be eminent domain implemented neocon style!
Make sure when a natural disaster strikes, it achieves maximal destruction so that it can be rezoned for newer developers that have been waiting to step in to take it over!

12. Does Trent Lott know about this?
I'm glad Hastert is catching some heat from this bs. People are dying in NO right now and he's already talking about not wanting to rebuild their home. How tasteless is that?
