"Babies Die Right in Front of My Eyes" - NBC Cameraman

Katrina: Kudos To Tony Zumbado
NBC News photojournalist Tony Zumbado has recorded incredible, heartbreaking images from New Orleans today. People at the Convention Center pleaded with Zumbado to send help. On MSNBC this afternoon, Zumbado said he saw babies die right in front of his eyes. "It was unbelievable," an e-mailer said.

The video will appear on tonight's Nightly News, and it will air in full on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. "They are transcendant images and comments from Americans who followed the rules and saw the system break down around them," Olbermann says...

> Update: 5:16pm: Excerpts of Zumbado's video are on MSNBC.com. "I've gotta tell you, I thought I'd seen it all, but just when you think you've seen it all, you go into another situation and you see something horrific. I've never seen anything in my life like this...I can't put it into words the amount of destruction that is in this city and how these people are coping..."

3. This is a crime.
The administration is clearly guilty of criminal negligence. Jail. Everyone of them needs to go to jail for a very long time.

8. A woman showed how there is no one left organizing the evacuees
That means they were told to evacuate to the superdome where they would be cared for (under the guidance of the national guardsmen who were there at first). Those guardsmen are gone now, that means they've been abandoned. Someone is guilty of the murder of the elderly and babies who are dying from dehydration and starvation. It's nothing less than murder!!

6. Video to air on Olbermann tonight.
I bet these people will get some help now, but unfortunately it's a lot too late.

I saw a clip of his testimony on MSNBC just now ... unbelievable.

10. He also said dead people were placed along the inside
walls of the building. They were mostly elderly and died after evacuating to this location. This is serious and the government response doesn't indicate that they get it. Three minutes without oxygen, three DAYS without water, three weeks without food. Without water, these people are running out of time.

14. if we're not ready for a natural disaster
...we're not ready for a terrorist attack either. Fuck Bush and his lousy homeland security and fucked up war in Iraq, we're understaffed, with no manpower to help our very own people.

17. Incredible, authentic reporting. It was like i was in a free country
I saw this reporter telling it like it is on msnbc (reagan's show). One of the things he said is that people were very grateful to see the camera people there, so they can tell their stories to the outside world.

Reminds me of being in Palestine, and people coming up to me to tell their story, and to plead with me to tell it to the outside world, to the people of the United States, because they believed, despite everything, that we would care if they knew.
