"because they had no means to evacuate. They are poor and have no cars and YOU didn't provide transportation to them to get them out of the city."

2. Because their SUV''S were in the shop?
What an asshole.

The poor, the disabled, those with nowhere else to go and they get belittled by the bastard who probably slept in his own bed last night, took a hot shower this AM put on some clean/dry clothes and had a big o'le breakfast before going out to criticize the hurricane and flood survivors.

3. That's what happens when you put political cronies
in charges of agencies who have no expertise.

What an ass.

The US Government from their last census knew that there were 100,000 households in New Orleans that did not have their own transportion. 100,000 households and they knew!

The US Gvt KNEW the potential of the precise tragedy that happened to NO.

The US Gvt KNEW all the figures provided by scientists, engineers, socialists, etc. that stated the consequences of such a tragedy!!!

THE US GVT HAD ALL THE FACTS AND FIGURES AND ANALYSES AND FAILED TO MOBILIZE AND DEPLOY!!!

5. The conservative response is always 'every man for himself'
Survival of the fittest, social darwinism, law of the jungle...blends perfectly with supply-side economics and tax cuts for the rich/corporate welfare.

A top-heavy society is teetering.

15. Outrageous and Travesty!
He had the nerve to say that they were now trying to "rescue people that ignored the evacuation order on their own accord"

Basically blaming the dead - and the near dead - for their plight.

SOMEONE HAD BETTER CALL THEM ON THIS!!

20. Then resign from FEMA you ingorant fuck
They didn't evacuate because YOU didn't give them buses to evacuate out on.

They didn't leave because they're POOR. And Grayhound closed Saturday night.

Chertoff is a fucking ignorant homocidal LAWYER who couldn't be a crosswalk traffic guard. He should be fired.

And in the meantime - someone needs to AIRLIFT IN WATER AND SANDWICHES TO THE STARVING SURVIVORS OR KATRINA.

21. I don't know why
Those people continued to work in the WTC. Everyone knew it was terrorist target number one. I don't know why anyone expects to join the national guard and thinks they won't die in a war. C'mon people let's take responisbility shall we? Fend for yourself.

And God Bless America the land of- if you die- you deserve it afterall, so don't expect NUTHING from the government but I "told you so sucker."

YES I'm angry.

23. Classic example of blaming the victims
Bush dropped the ball on this one big time. It was predicted back in 1996 that this would eventually happen. Under Clinton, there was a project to rebuild Louisiana's coastline. Bush, in his infinite stupidity, decided to slash funding for this project.

"Frustrated by delays in the release of a federal-state study of alternatives for rebuilding Louisiana's coastline, state environmental officials last week said that Louisiana will publish its own version and then hold public hearings on it in April. A draft version of the Louisiana Coastal Area Ecosystem Restoration Study was supposed to be released in October 2003, but the White House Office of Management and Budget has prohibited the New Orleans District of the Army Corps of Engineers from releasing it until questions posed by the OMB and the Council on Environmental Quality are answered. The OMB wants the study to focus on projects that can be completed in the first 10 years of what is expected to be a 30 year comprehensive restoration effort. The federal agency also wants to see more work done on larger proposals that are not part of the study, including building a new channel from the Mississippi River to create a "third delta" in the Barataria-Terrebone estuary and reconstructing the mouth of the Mississippi to create a slackwater channel for shipping, allowing much river flow and sediment to move west to recreate wetlands. The state has wanted to take a much longer term view that would take advantage of knowledge already gained from smaller restoration projects and computer modeling done by scientists working on the project. The Times Picayune 3/1"

It also didn't help that much needed man-power is gone since Bush has much of the National Guard in Iraq and Afghanistan along with much needed equipment.
