You know what? This is going to leave scars on our nation..
almost as deep as our civil war.

If you dig for news sources, a picture of utter chaos, brutality and fear emerges. (check NOLA.com or the Times-Picayune, which is doing a stellar job despite everything.)

And here we are a full FIVE DAYS on, and things get WORSE every day.
The President of the United States should be screaming at his staff and firing people for their incompetence.

We are only beginning to hear of just how bad it is in the city. There will be recriminations and bad blood for decades after this one...

9. Fortunately the majority of Bush supporters are also have-nots
who voted against their best interests because the media said he was such a normal, down-home guy.

7. This is reminding me of how the nation changed politically
after seeing TV news reports of police brutality against civil rights marchers in the 1960s. And Kent State, and the Vietnam War. Let's hope the same things happen - Repukes get kicked out of office.

10. that was the beginning of of repuke resurgence.
the south was undergoing it's political restructuring under the repuke party -- and the anti tax freaks were beginning to find their voice.

to boot, the democrats became like sloths in the senate and house -- they allowed inertia in the government and politics to hang them.

11. I think the Rodney King riots and the riots in Cincinatti had lots to do
with Clinton defeating Poppy.

13. You're right, Lindacooks, about the civil rights movement.
People were so shocked and appalled at what was happening to fellow human beings in their own country that they demanded change.

Not sure that the Viet Nam issue followed quite the same pattern, but there's sure nothing like showing people the realities on the ground to open eyes.

14. How this has changed me personally:
After watching this event unfold on TV, I no longer have faith that my government is capable of helping me in an emergency. Any remaining illusions I held about the strength and 1st world status of my nation have been shattered.

And I do not believe that this administration cares about me or my fellow citizens in any way whatsoever. It is clear from these pictures and the lies of Michael Brown on TV today that every single one of us is an expendable commodity.

Reading the freeper comments makes me think that this country is headed towards a civil war. I can't see myself living in the same nation as these people for much longer. Something has got to change from that quarter or blood will be shed in this country over politics. These kinds of differences of opinion, when one side is basically advocating genocide and anarchism, are unacceptable.

And I no longer consider myself a patriot. I am no longer loyal to my government, because they are no longer loyal to me, or my fellow citizens in New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast. They are lining their own pockets with rising gas prices and leaving all of us to fend for ourselves.

In short, I have had it. I am not taking any more shit from my government. I am tired of the lies and the smirking and the destruction of my beautiful nation. And I am sure that I am not alone. The next 6 months in this country should be very interesting...
